smolcat22 Posted October 28 Posted October 28 I know some people use this as an offensive term but I am talking about a very specific trend and group. The K-Pop inspired plastic surgery that makes Koreans appear more "white" or European in their features. It seems to be more pronounced in the men than the women as Asian women are considered to be very "cute" and attractive for their features but Asian men tend to be viewed as too soft. Some argue that this trend is destructive to Koreans and Asians as a whole as it is teaching them that in order to be accepted and viewed as attractive, they need to look less like their race. Others will say it really is a small fraction of Koreans chasing this (similar to the trend of white people trying to look more Korean) and it is no big deal. I have even seen some people argue in favor of it for simply making surgeries better suited for non-Koreans looking to travel there to get work done. How do you view it? Do you think it is a good thing, bad thing, or are you just entirely indifferent about the whole subject? Quote
Gelsomino Posted October 30 Posted October 30 I always thought "Wasian" was a term for a white and Asian mixed person? As for the plastic surgery trends, I don't think they are necessarily trying to appear more "white". Just more doll-like. 1 Quote
kittycatkate Posted November 1 Posted November 1 I don't think they are trying to appear more white either. Look at some of the more popular clinics like Zero1 Plastic Surgery. You can go on their website right now and see dozens of Korean women and men that have at surgery and they do not look less "Asian". Maybe this is even more niche, the thing you are mentioning? Or only at curtain clinics? I am not sure. Quote

Just more doll-like. This is also a trend I see in other places too. The doll look is very popular and glamours because it is youthful. Not everyone has the base features to pull it off though. I have seen some great results coming from Vava PS with eyes being done very beautifully. Making them wider and rounder but without outright erasing the beautiful almond shape eyes Korean men and women have. Their eyes tend to be smaller so making them bigger gives this appearance, the doll look. Quote

That is what I thought. I never heard it being about a look for surgery. Maybe this is a location thing, like wherever OP lives it is a phrase that has been used. Quote
