Hi all,

Me and PS Buddies are back from our Korea enhancement trip with Dr Kim Byung Gun in "BK Dongyang Plastic Surgery Clinic"

Day 1:
Tue 6th Nov, 7 of us were there at his clinic 3pm for our consultation.
We were lead to a room to wait for consultation, and not long later Dr Kim came in and introduce himself and saying later his consultant will help us to do a brief consultation before he attend to us.

First group that Dr Kim attended :

(Gal G) wanted to do an revision of rhinoplasty which she had done it in Singapore 4times and fail. And she is also requested for chin augmentation.
When Dr Kim, saw her nose he said that her current implant that her previous doctor insert was so high and also very dangerous because it may pertrude out which just like what happen before to her on her 2nd times Surgery which left her a dimple scare on her nose.

He said he will take the current L implant out, insert an lower I implant in for her which is more safe for her. And will do an silicone implant for her chin.

(Gal A) wanted an double eyelids surgery which looks natural.
Dr Kim examine her and suggested an double eyelid cum magic epi for her coz her eyes was abit far apart, and when Dr Kim asking her how she wanted your eyelid fold to be like, she told him that leave it to him to decided which will look good for her.

(Gal K) wanted and revision eyelid surgery which had done it twice in Singapore and fail. First time was it Jan'07 Stitching Method, second time Feb'07 Incision Method.
The first thing that Dr Kim said to her was, she got and hollow eyelid below her eyebrow and with her eyes protruding out. And to let her to had an permerant double eyelids with just normal double eyelid won't solve her problem, the chances of the fold to disappear is 60%. What he suggested is to have fats grafting to fill her hollow sac in eyelid below her eyebrow and that have an double eyelids Surgery, and this will solve her problem but he also did mention the chances of she might lose the fold was 10%.


(Myself) wanted to enhance my puffy eyelids and higher nose bridge.
As of my turn to let Dr Kim to examine, he was looking on my face and jokingly said,"You got an beautiful nice fold and I think you don't need any surgery he smiling at me. I told him, I hate my puffy eyelids, also wanted to have a bigger eyes and have a higher bridge. An he pick up his twister and poke on my eyelid saying he will make my fold higher and remove abit of fats and for my nose he will make my bridge a bit higher with ear cartilage graft on my tip to make it more natural.

(Gal L) wanted an higher nose bridge and correct her flat side profile of her face.
As Dr Kim was examining her face, and told her he can have the same procedure like mine to enhance her nose and Fat grafting on her face to correct her flat side profile.

As for the Second group which the other 2 gals who Dr Kim attended was enquiring Nipple Reduction & Areolar Reduction, and I was not present in the consulation so couldn't really share this topic.
All I knew was, both gals wanted this procedure with the tactic which leave mininal scar by cutting the skin starting from the nipple side to reduce the size of the Areolar.

(Gal M)Dr Kim said, Nipple can be reduce but as for the tactic she wanted to reduce Areola cannot be used cos her's is too wide so need to used another method that need to cut along the Areola.

(Gal N)Dr Kim said, her doesn't need any nipple reduction but she can have Areolar reduction with the method she asked for.

There after the consulation, we were lead to a room to confirm out surgery cost and timing.

Next day schdule for surgery,
9 a.m for Gal A (Double Eyelid cum Magic Epi)
10 a.m for Gal L (Rhinoplasty cum Fat Grafting)
11 a.m for Gal G (Revisional Rhinoplasty cum Chin Augmentation)
12 p.m Myself (Double Eyelid cum Rhinoplasty)
1 p.m Gal K (Revisional Double Eyelid cum Fat Grafting)

And for the other 2 gals couldn't decide on the spot so we just go ahead with the schdule Dr Kim arrange for us.

Has anyone heard of a nose implant branded "PORETEX"? OR "PORTEX"? I forgot how it was spelled.... My doctor showed it to me today and said it was the newest thing out in the market. Any feedback...?

I think that might be for the tip... you can use your ear cartilege for defining your tip.

Today I had a nice talk with her and I actually asked her about "dr.chuang". By the way, i'm in no way trying to influence anyone's decision but just telling you guys what I learned from my Aunt. Here it goes.



When I asked my aunt the question, and if he was a good doctor. The first thing she told me to do was, to not go to him? Why? Because she told me GREAT plastic surgeons open there own clinic, they aren't hired.

Some of you may not know, but the owner of wish clinic is not Dr.Chuang, he is "hired". That means a percentage of his pay gets taken out, for the owner. What does that mean? The more surgurys he does, the more money he makes. And revisions don't cost the doctors anything.

To make a long conversation short, she told me all great surgeons have there own clinic.

WOw.. that sure is interesting information.

I didnt know he is not the owner.. all along, I have always thought he is the owner.. Maybe I'll ask him next time.

But quite frankly, I totally do not feel that he is the kind that is out to make more surgeries for more money... as in he totally doesnt rush the operations or anything.

Like my surgeries, he took a whole nice... 5 hours plus to do them. I think its a good time....

Man.. if he is only a worker there, I would really wish for him to earn more money and open up a clinic when he has enough money.
Hopefully this place is just a stepping stone for him.

Keenose just got a Goretex implant & that's what I'll be getting too. Tissues grow around the Goretex & therefore it does it make it more difficult for a surgeon to remove later on down the line but that's not to say it's impossible, you just have to go to a good surgeon who works with Goretex.

Silicon always stays a seperate piece from your nose tissues & is easier to remove down the line. I know it can calcify & deteriorate a little bit from the pictures I saw from Dr. Jung's website, that's not to say all silicon will definitely do this though.

Goretex - More natural looking, usually a bit more wider & not as sharp as silicon (but dr. did tell me Goretex can be made sharper if I like...we'll see), a little harder to remove if you decide for another nose job, less shinier nose, not been around as long as silicon, slightly less chance of infection

Silicon - More sharper nose, easy to remove, nose area seems to be shinier (maybe not everyone but more likely with silicon), been around a longer time, etc.

It really depends on what Dr. recommends for you & how high you want your nose to be & the type of nose you are going for.

Adding in that silicon MAY be able to be seen under certain lighting.
Like maybe strong lighting.. or some have reported that it shows under those UV lightings.... like those in discos..

I dont thnk my bridge is VERY slim... but neither is it very wide.
However, now that I sit down and stare at myself.. IF .......... IF I had a very slim bridge, it would probably look very unnatural.

PLUS...... I have already super oily skin... hahah maybe with silicon, my oil would just drip off my nose.

To anyone thats had surgery... what did your parents say when you had stuff done? I recently had my eyelids done.. only DST.. I had a nice fold in one eye and wanted the other to match so my final outcome wasn't like totally different.. just swelling... ANYWAY my mum flipped and said i was erasing 'her' daughter away blah blah.. made me feel like cr*p.. and this is just my eyelids.... how did u guys cope with the parents reaction? She'll probs disown me if i done my nose!!

Firstly.. how old are you currently?
Are you still staying with them?

LOL I guess... if you really want something real bad, you have to have alot of determination and be prepared for the "FIRE"

Frankly, I didnt think of what my parents would say and went for it already.. hehe

My dad didn't say much but my mom supported me & actually wanted me to get bigger lids like hers lol. I thought they were going to flip out too over my nose but oddly enough my mom just said I didn't need it done, no arguing or getting mad or telling me horror stories like I thought :shame:

Hey thanx heaps for sharing that information with us. I always thought that Dr. Chuang was the owner as well. You are very lucky to have an aunt who is a plastic surgeon, I'm sure she can give you lots of advise. Did she recommend any doctors?

Just my intuition and senses, some of the doctors we consider as "great" surgeons also make mistake. Lets just take for examples, ah-hem, some of the doctors mentioned in this forum who had made some some mistakes. There was one plastic surgeon in the city I lived in whom own his own clinic but made a patient's breathing worse after her rhinoplasty. She went to have it tested at a hospital afterward and was told that her breathing issue will remain as so. I would have gone to him if he was not so "proud" of his ...if you get what I mean. I actually had my double lid done with him and I was in and out of the surgery room within 45 hour. The job done was just OK. Sometime the great one is not so attentive and is negligence in the details. I was inform that I will look normal after a week but after a week I went back to work, I looked like a gold fish and I was told by one coworker that she had never seen me looked that :-O !!

I think we got to be comfortable with the doctor who's going to perform on you and make sure you're able to communicate to him/her as to what you want. At the same time, make sure he's properly certified as a surgeon so do your homework peeps.

Dr. Chuang does make an effort in explaining as much as he can to assure you of his ability and skill but he will not hard sell you to get you to come to him. From my experience, I exasperated him with all my questions and finally he sensed my worry and told me to come back to him when I am ready. Just because he does not own clinic does not dictate his ability and skill set. Who know, he might have a complex that people might sue him if surgery does not go successfully and therefore worked under an owner so that he will be cover if things go south there are so many reasons as to why and for sure mine is NOT all substantial.


Anyhow, this is all I have to say for now. Please take what I said with a grain of salt.

I think your really worry about your nose. I ever told you that rib cartilage graft will have warpping and absorbtion issues right? The warpping rate will be around 30~40% but most of them are not severe or ovbious. Only 10~15% of these cases need a revision procedure.

To prevent from these issues we usually do many procedures like scrolling and overgrafting the cartilage. However even we have done so much on it, we still can get rid of it definatelly. You must know that it is an original problem of rib cartilage itself but not a doctor's technique. Only when you can realize this matter very much you can receive the total rib rhinoplasty.

I always try my best to make a non-problematic nose but it is very hard to explain every procedure to you in details. I will do the operation for you anytime when you are well prepared.

Hi Dr. Chuang,

I want to bring this to your attention and see if you're aware of the several cases of shrink wrap due to rib grafting. I read on 2 of the forums that there are couple of people experincing that. Is there a way to prevent such a situation from happening to me? Do you normally take this real situation into consideration when performing rhinoplasty? I think I have read somewhere that some of the doctors would over graft the nose to make way for this kind of situation. Do you have any though on this?

I think you need to update us with some new pictures!

My nose is actually really quite small so I hope Goretex doesn't make it wide because I don't want the bridge to be the same width as my nostril area.

Yeah, especially after surgery, your face is just super oily. No wonder blackheads come out

Meowgirl - I'm sure that your mom might be mad for awhile but she won't disown you. After you heal up, she might even wonder why she was upset in the first place

I'm sure most great surgeons have their own clinic but that's not to say if a doctor doesn't have his own clinic he's not good. Everyone makes mistakes, we're all human & you will probably have a better chance of success with a more well qualified doctor but even that's no guarantee.

Just do you research, get a few consultations & go with the doctor you feel the most comfortable with
