asian nose job 2

Recommended Posts

i know, they said i don't have to but they said that they strongly recommend the sliding genioplasty over the chin implant. i'm kinda hesitant to get the sliding one because it costs 5300 including anesthesia (vs the 2300 for the implant) and most sources say that a chin implant is sufficient in most cases and provides the same or a comparable aesthetic result

but here is a quote from the email correspondence with vip

o hey rawdude, did you get paransal implants? i am thinking about getting those too. i have some questions if you don't mind answering them. i would be really grateful too =D

did they use rib cartilage?
can you feel the cartilage when you feel around the paranasal area?
did it make a noticeable difference?
do you know what shape was carved?
do you know how much cartilage they took? i will probably need a few mm height-wise but since they have to elevate the entire paranasal area, it seems like they need quite a bit of cartilage. do you know how much they took? and how big is the incision on your chest?

thanks so much

Both techniques should yield similar results. It also depends on how much improvement your chin needs. The sliding genioplasty is probably better if you need significant improvement over just a slight improvement. It's a matter of personal preference. If you're on a tight budget, then go with the silicone implant. If you can afford the sliding geniopoasty, then go with that since it would be a permanent solution. You would probably need to replace the silicone in the future just like how it is replaced in rhinoplasty and breast augmentation.

Do you really need to improve your chin? Maybe you can get it done later because your image will change after your nose job anyway. I understand that most plastic surgeons address the chin along with rhinoplasty to provide a more balanced look.

Hey everyone, I've been a silent reader for quite a while now and I learnt so many useful information from this thread

I'm going to VIP clinic for cheekbone/zygoma reduction, mandible jaw reduction and forehead fat grafts. I will be going on 1st April and will be staying there for 2 weeks. Anyone going to Korea during that time? I will post my before and after pictures too if people are interested.

Also one more thing, I've heard alot about Dr Jung in this forum and was planning to do a revision rhinoplasty with him in July. It's not that my previous nose job went horribly wrong but I simply don't like how my nose bridge was not augmented enough (maybe because I said I wanted a natural look) and there isnt enough tip projection. Maybe at the same time do my eyelids too, but I don't want to go to Dr Jung just because I think he is someone who is an expert at noses not the eyes -__- hehe
But I don't know how to go about doing the two procedures in one trip with two different doctors, lol

Could anyone recommend me a good doctor for eyelid surgery? (I have double eyelids, but I'm very interested in making them bigger with the bambi-eye look i.e. lateral epi and levator muscle surgery) Thanks!

i am kinda hesitant because i heard they use titanium screws to secure the bone for the sliding genioplasty. i emailed joann but she hasn't replied yet. would the titanium give me trouble with metal detectors?

but that is a really good point, rhinoplasty and breast implants with silicone do often need replacements and i can't think of any reason chin implants would be any different

i gotta do some research to see how the bone grows back or fuses after the sliding genioplasty

my chin is a bit deficient right now, and if the nose was projected then my chin would look even more deficient in comparison to the rest of my face. i would probably look like a bird if i didn't get the chin implant

Who was your previous doctor? couldnt u get revision for a better price there?
Hey guys whats the difference between those two methods of chin implants (that are fake) compared to fat graphting in the chin? Is there no natural method for the chin yet?

sliding genioplasty is natural except for the titanium screws. what they do is cut your bone and move it forward, and then secure it with screws. the bone fuses after ~a year too so the screws can be removed

Hey Juicyme,

Hope your recovery is going well. I'm questioning whether to fly so far away to Korea or stay in the states like you. It seems like Dr. Ahn charges a lot more than any average Korean doctor..but with the air fare..I guess it all evens our...How do you like your nose now?? Any pictures ^^

i did some research and found out that sliding genioplasty can give a more customised result, since the surgeon decides where to make the cut and how to slide it. they can even make the face longer or shorter laterally as well as longitudinally. chin implants cannot lengthen the chin vertically

also, sliding genioplasties can give a sharper chin while an implant comes in premade shapes. some surgeons use a button shape which will not look sharp. others use an implant that looks kinda sharp and it has "wings" to keep anchored under the flesh.

so apparently the sliding genioplasty has the potential to give a better result. but ppl online say that it is best performed by maxillofacial surgeons first. ENT surgeon is second best choice and cosmetic surgeon is last

the reason is that there is a major nerve in the area that provides feeling to the lip, mouth and chin and the first two choices have extensive experience and knowledge of that area and will know to avoid damaging the nerve. maxillofacial surgeons are actually specialised to that area and only perform surgery in that area which is why they are the best choice. they routinely perform bone cutting and jaw repositioning etc

there is a really useful picture on this page
