asian nose job 2

Recommended Posts

I am also afraid of the length and size of my nose because my Korean mother mentioned how Koreans value lengthening their noses to project like a Caucasian nose. So I did get an implant. I remember inquiring Dr. Kim about this and he literally just stared at me for what felt like an awkward eternity. He finally answered, "You can have whatever you want." That was why I went to Dr. Jung's office. His doctor and he explained everything in three consultations with me. They were very thorough. I hear he is the expert at revisions. They start at $5,500 if I remember correctly. I am so sorry but Dr. Jung's office said revisions occur in 10% of rhinoplasties!

The language is very hard and I had two translators and there was still some things lost in translation. I think that is one reason Dr. Kim is so popular. he was trained in the United States and his English sounds pretty native. Dr. Jung's English was OK, but there was some confusion with my eyes. I asked for the same and he understood this as symmetrical which is not what I wanted. I wanted to keep my same line even though were not symmetrical! It turned out OK but I had them change the stitches. whew.

As for recovery, I am still in recovery mode. Hiding out. Today is my big day to go out in public. I am freaking out. I keep practicing with make up and obsessively looking in the mirror. I keep thinking my nose is so noticeable even to strangers.

The initial recovery was fine. I just stayed in my hotel room for a few days. Watched TV, played on the computer, took short walks. Every day the swelling changed, going up moving down my cheeks. But it was tolerable. There was no pain. Even getting my nose cleaned and having the stitched removed was not as bad as getting waxed or having my teeth cleaned!

A lot of people speak a little English. Give cards to taxi drivers. They are very professional, not like in America. They all have GPS. Seoul has signs written in English also.

Is there any website I can go to for more information about Dr Chung and Shimmian clinic? I searched but could not find one. May be all the info are in Korean ?!?!

A day or two after the surgery, did you go out and eat or did you buy take away? It is so lucky that you have relatives who are natives. Even though I want to go, it is nearly impossible to find some one who speaks the language and be with me all the time while I am getting recover.

You have been through it, do you think there is any chance for people like me to go over there and survive just by myself?? I think it is quite crucial to have some one you can count on after the operation. Am I right or I am just being over panic :wondering ?

Here is Dr. Jung's website in English.
http://www.nose.co.kr/english/main/main.asp

It was helpful having my Korean cousin to do all the driving and take care of he money. He also asked a lot of my questions in Korean. It was also helpful having my Korean step-mother care for me at the hotel. She really just brought me food and watched TV with me and gave me reassurances. She walked around with me. I am sure I could have been OK alone, but it was really beneficial having natives. Even in America, you need someone to drop you off and pick you up and watch you the first night when you sleep. But I did see an Australian man alone there. He was fine with a cab driver and a smart phone. People in the office will speak English. The operations are so common and routine. They kept telling me my operation was very routine there.

Hi Everybody,

Today was my first day in public without any splint or mask or tape in front of some friends and I felt so self conscious. I could tell from my close friend's reactions that I do look different. No one was negative. But you know how I really knew I looked scary was from their small children. Little kids cannot hide that look on their faces. One little girl actually looked scared of me. She asked her dad why my face looked so different. I felt like a monster. I was supposed to go into work and I did not because I was so scared of people seeing me. And today is my daughter's birthday. Ugh, I am a single mom and I planned a party weeks before my procedure. Big dummy. I was so excited about having a pretty, straight feminine nose. Now I look like a raccoon. I am considering just wearing a mask to the party. Thanks for listening. My heart is a little broken, BUT my daughter keeps telling me it is all in my head. She says I look pretty. She says I look the same except for some bruises under my eye and that my nose does not look different just better. I can't help but to be insecure.

OK here is a quote from Betternose.com that explains how I am feeling and that it is a normal phase after getting my Asian nose job! One of my best friends did actually act unsupportive. She hates the idea of people getting plastic surgery. But on another note our waiter did flirt with me. I just sat there because my lip still does not move. Maybe he liked that I was the only quiet woman in our bunch! LOL! So to strangers, maybe I look OK. I do not know!!

"In the days following surgery, when your face is bruised and swollen, it's easy to forget that you will be looking better. In fact, many patients feel depressed for a while after plastic surgery-it's quite normal and understandable. Rest assured that this stage will pass. Day by day, your nose will begin to look better and your spirits will improve. Within a week or two, you'll no longer look as if you've just had surgery. Still, healing is a slow and gradual process. Some subtle swelling may be present for months, especially in the tip. The final results of rhinoplasty may not be apparent for a year or more. In the meantime, you might experience some unexpected reactions from family and friends. They may say they don't see a major difference in your nose. Or they may act resentful, especially if you've changed something they view as a family or ethnic trait. If that happens, try to keep in mind why you decided to have this surgery in the first place. If you've met your goals, then your surgery is a success."

Hey guys,

A quick question. Have any of you considered VIP ? How much did they quote you?
They quoted me around 8500 USD for first time nosejob (incl. anesthesia). I think it's a little bit high so wanted to hear your opinion.

So keep on the good work of updating us  I also hope that your insecurity will pass quickly so that you could enjoy the new look.

http://www.realself.com/question/what-average-nose-surgery-recovery-time
This website explains how long before we can go to an important wedding or go back to work with a new nose. Great advice from real doctors.

I am now 14 days past my surgery. I have bruising only around my lash lines and eye creases. The scar below my nose looks moist and pink, not really noticeable. My bridge and tip are really swollen and my nostrils are kind of collapsed. My upper lip and cheeks are firm. So I look very mammalian like a cat or raccoon. Really. Wish I could have hid at home, but it was my kid;s birthday party!

Reactions were really mixed.

I have been called into work tomorrow. I want to beg for more time to be at home! I have a high profile job and I do not want people to look at me yet! Wish I was proud of my nose! Can't wait for it too look great!

I am dealing with the same issue as you, but have not been to BK Clinic.

After having done quite some research I discovered that it is possible to remove goretex implants. Mind you that only skilled surgeons can do that. Sometimes removal of goretex can damage your tissues, which then need to be patched up with autologous, either ear or costal cartilage grafts.

Anyway, when it comes to revision of Goretex cases, dr. Jung seems to be the man in Korea. But if you don't like the dramatic changes and sharp looks which Koreans are so keen on, I highly recommend you consider Taiwanese surgeons like Tseng, Kao or Hsu, who advocate a more conservative style.

Disparity,

If this might help you, please find below an excerpt of somebody's post on the Singapore Expats Forum:

-Dr Ryan Hsu
www.ychsu.com

ENT specialist base in Kaohsiung who only does autologous rhinoplasty and only silicone chin implants. Autologous material can be derived from ear, ribcage and nose. He will be able to correct ENT and aesthetic issues. He was an understudy of Dr Dean Toriumi www.deantoriumi.com , who is reputed to be one of the top 5 rhinoplasty surgeons in the world. There are many reviews of him on this forum, including mine.

-Dr Mike Tseng
www.aphrodite.com.tw

A surgeon that is really popular with the forumers at www.purseblog.com. All the reviews about his rhinoplasties I have read are very positive and the pictures speak for itself. Visit this thread for their reviews #
-Dr Kao Chuan Hsiang
http://tw.myblog.yahoo.com/face-nose

An ENT specialist reputed to be one of the best rhinoplasty surgeons in Taiwan and he is based in Taipei. He furthered his studies in US at the University of San Diego. He does autologous and artificial (silicone and goretex) implants). He is very well known in Taiwan and is frequently interviewed. He also provides mini face lifts, botox injections, restylane injections, blepharoplasty and chin augmentations.

For my revision, Dr. Hsu quoted me 120.000 NTD. Revision will consist in removal of Goretex, and possibly autologous grafting.

The above mentioned surgeons are able to communicate in English.
