asian nose job 2

Recommended Posts

Sorry I don't have any pics of my nose before any rhinoplasty was done on me.

It has only been 13 days post op, but for some reason, I know my nose isn't going to change for the better although the doctor says otherwise. (Don't they all?) I think "swelling" is too much of an excuse. I can't give myself too much hope anymore, it only leads to more disappointment. I look like I have a bird nose now. I thought people's noses
get upturned when it swells...mine is drooping big time. I have never had such a huge tip.

-------------------------------------------
ABOUT ME
I am a woman of part Asian descent born with a very wide Asian nose that lacked some bridge definition. I am in my early 20s and was born with VERY oily skin at the nose (complete with unsightly blackheads so you can imagine how oily it is).

SOME MORE INFO
Throughout my whole life,
my nose was the only feature that honestly really bothered me a lot. I absolutely love my other features. I have been called beautiful and pretty...but I know in their heads they are thinking "well...except the nose". That is what I think as well about my face.

My face fits a delicate, upturned nose because my other features are very feminine, refined, and delicate and a bit more Western (Caucasian)-looking. My nose sticks out like a sore thumb because it is born on the wrong face.

And with that said, not even all Asian girls have flat, wide, bulbous noses. I see a lot with tiny button noses and those look cute on them. The point is that my nose just does not fit my own face.

FIRST RHINOPLASTY
So I got my first rhinoplasty 2 years and 2 months ago. It was a closed rhinoplasty and he just stuck a silicone, L-shaped implant inside. He says narrowing the base nor the nasal is not necessary as the silicone already pushes the nose up like a tent, giving it a more narrow look.

The only thing I liked after the first surgery was the definition at the bridge. And then the silicone shifted over to the right so it made my nose look really flat on that side at 3/4 profile view, while the other side looked really dull and masculine.

I also believe I started feeling the tip kind of "poking out" but not really poking out starting at 2 months after I had the surgery. It stayed like that for 2 years and did not extrude.

THE SECOND RHINOPLASTY
So I have been REALLY desperate to get it revised for a while now. I went to see a rhinoplasty specialist and viewed all his before and after photos...they are absolutely amazing- all of it. I thought mine would be amazing too.

He suggested at the first consultation that we should use all cartilage from my ear and scalp. But then right before the surgery, he said "maybe we can keep the silicone implant, but just shave it down a bit and then I'll use some cartilage for the tip." I was reluctant so he proceeded with the original plan.

The thing I remember clearest while in surgery was that I asked "Is it over yet?" a few times. The surgeon said "Do you want a nice nose or not?" I said "yes' and he said "Then let us work." If the results are great, then I wouldn't mind his attitude during surgery. After the surgery, everyone said it went very well. I was glad of that.

So I was put in the nasal splint. I noticed the splint was crooked but didn't say anything because I thought maybe its just swelling or just a deformity in the splint, but not on my nose.

Surprisingly, I had no bruising at all what-so-ever this second time around. I did bruised at the first rhinoplasty. So I thought that no bruising was a sign that it really did go perfectly and I would get the nose I want.

MY SECOND RHINOPLASTY- THE REVEAL
When the splint came off on the 8th day, I thought my nose only looked fairly good. I don't know how to describe it. I was just hoping it would get better. I asked about the unevenness and the surgeon said it will get better over time. I don't know if I should trust him with that. He said that after 1 month, I should be able to see very much of the final results. That frightens me, I am almost at 2 weeks and just have 4 more weeks to go for the 1 month mark.

THE SECOND RHINOPLASTY- DEPRESSION
I noticed that the cartilage at the bridge and top was curved in a hideous way. One of the reasons for revision in the first place was because the silicone implant shifted to the right. Now the cartilage is at the right again, but the tip is curved to the left. Before, the whole thing was shifted to the right. The cartilage at the bridge is soft like rubber while the tip is very hard.

I contacted the plastic surgeon and he said for me to come to the office and he'll check it out. So I did and was ready to prepare for reoperation to reposition it. But instead he told me just to massage it to the direction I want to go until the cartilage settles itself and adheres to my nose. He told me to come back 4 days later so he can see the progress.

I am doing the massage right now and it seems to be helping just a tiny bit. I fear that 1) my nasal bones are originally not symmetrical, 2) Because the silicone implant shifted to the right before, it is adapting to the pattern again 3) It was an error during the operation. But my surgeon seems confident that the massage would work perfectly.

At 13 days, I feel very very ugly. I used to get really confused when people tell me that
I'm so beautiful all the time even after the 1st rhinoplasty which wasn't even good except for the bridge definition at the top. But I doubt they will say that I'm beautiful anymore.

THE SECOND RHINOPLASTY- ALL THE WRONGS
At the front view, my nose is curved and my nasal bones form an odd pyramid shape at the base of my nose which makes it look like an onion. My nose is very round with a fat, wide, huge tip. Profile views also reflect this. I describe my thoughts about my nose more in detail in the photos.

HOW I FEEL
I want to revise immediately and get the pointy tip I want and get back the great bridge definition I had. I don't want to waste any more time and money on this and I am very depressed now. My nose is STILL the only thing that bothers me after spending so much money.

I don't know what I should do at this point. I thought about all the great things I'd be able to do afterwards and how truly beautiful I would look. I gave way too much hope to myself. I have no more hope left.

MY QUESTIONS:
1) What can I do at this point?
2) Is immediate revision possible? Will my health or the results be at risk? I just do not think anything will change for the better.
3) I don't remember my nose refining much after months from the primary rhinoplasty...maybe that is because there was no tip-work done? The doctor just stuck an L-shaped implant in there really. This time I can feel a wide, round piece of cartilage in my nose. I am afraid its TOO wide for my nose because my base was reduced...so it may be out of proportion?
4) What does swelling actually feel like and how to tell if I have it?
5) Does touching your nose too much or applying pressure cause more swelling?

Thanks

I am so happy for you!!

aFTER reading your experiences with the other doctors, i understand now why you were so worried.

Astha says your nose is healing well when she last saw you.
So sorry I couldnt spend more time to talk to you. i really wanted too but it is just so inconvenient with my kids around. especially my little one whom is really a koala in disguise. I reckon you need more rest rather than a crowd around you.

stay positive ok, Dr Lee is a very vey experience doctor and I am sure our nose will turn out nicely.

Mine is still very very hard and swollen at the tip. My nose is more swollen than the other ladies because he has corrected my very deviated septum as well as suturing up my previous septum piercing with some soft cartilages.

I am already missing the cold weather in korea.

Also, can you help me get Huixin's email address again? She gave it to me but my son deleted it from my phone accidently.

THaNK YOU SO MUCH!!!

Hi dear, I am so glad to hear from you! :yahoo:I love your sons, they are so adorable. I did not expect you are such a pretty young girl before I met you. Hehe... I really wish that we could have more time to spend together, but as you said, when I was healing, the first few days were rather a kind of torture to me, I really did not have much thoughts to spare for other staff. I will find out Huixin's email for you today.Healing well and I will pm you with my email address.

Hello Kain, you might be right, but putting implant without discussing with client beforewards and lie afterwards is not professional at all. After experiencing my depression and disappointment with Dr Jung, I can not find a good excuse to explain his arrogant and inprofessional behaviors. One thing you have to know is the donated rib has 70% infection rate and 100% absorbtion over years.I was lucky that I did not have to experience the infection but only the absorbtion.

Dear all, I am 6 days post surgery with VIP clinic for a nose revision. I am planning to post my experience here to let more people know about this clinic.

Before I start, I would like to thank a few friends that I have made over this site i.e. Izora, BBgirly, Houseoftaylor etc. They are very sharing and supportive friends, who have shared their complete experience with VIP clinic to me. Therefore I have an opportunity to know this special clinic and meet a great doctor—Dr Lee.

I have done four times’ nose job before I found VIP. Those are huge mistakes that I have made when I was younger, I wanted to have a prettier nose, so I had it done with L shape silicone. When the complications start to show, I had the implants changed to Goretex. A lot of doctors claimed that this is the best implant material for nose, but I had numerous complications with it and have to go through three revisions within two years’ time.

Due to previous implants complications, I decided to use homologous rib cartilage for my revision and wished that it would be the very last nose job that I have to go through. But finding the right doctor is a rather harder process than going through a nose job. Especially in Korea, there are about 500 plastic surgery clinics on the street where VIP clinic located and each of them claimed that they are the best, even less than 50% of them are qualified. Luckily through this forum, I found VIP clinic. So I had an online consultation with them. JoAnn, the manager who deals with foreign patients in this clinic wrote back to me and to my surprise, it was a very long email, which states the problems of my nose from nose structure to nose skin and raised the solutions of those issues. From my point of view, the online consultation was as much through as seeing the doctor in person. As a girl who had so many bad experiences in rhinoplasty, I am very cautious. I really could not afford one more mistake so I always have questions and concerns. In two months time, I wrote more than 40 emails to JoAnn, thank to her great patient and warm nature, she has never let me down over the email communication. She always answered my questions with as many details as she could provide.

On 6th December I finally arrived at Korea, VIP clinic arranged airport pick up service for me, when I arrived at the clinic, it was about 8pm. JoAnn and a few administration staff and Doctor Lee were waiting for me. When I met Dr Lee in the treatment room, he was still working, doing a final check up for a girl who has done fat grafting. Speak of this, something really worth to mention in VIP clinic is that Dr Lee is an experienced doctor with great skills and a warm heart. He provides very individual tailored services to each single client. He actually changes the dressings, check the patient’s conditions every single day by himself. When I was staying in VIP clinic, I actually get to see Dr Lee at least twice a day. He changes dressings and checks up my nose during day time and comes to greeting us before he got off from work.

My surgery was scheduled on 8th December, before surgery, Dr Lee did a very detailed consultation with me. Not like other doctors, he was extremely honest, he told me that my nose conditions are very poor, he will do his best, but cannot guarantee a perfect result. As my nose is serve asymmetrical and deviated, he can only try his best to correct it. I was not put too much expectation into my nose, all I wanted was just have a normal nose without any implant complications. Prettier look will be a bonus to come with this revision for me. By then, I already had true confidence in Dr Lee, and it was the very first time in my life before my surgery, I felt I trusted the doctor in full already.

On the surgery date, the nurse came to my room (a recovery room in the clinic, where I have been stayed for about 2 days before surgery and 3 days after surgery). I told her I was nervous, she actually held my hands to encourage me during the anesthetic process. I went into the surgery room at 9 am and Dr Lee woke me up at 12:00am on the 9th. It was true!!! My case was so difficult and really took great patience and skill of the doctor to perform a revision for me. I can’t believe that he has been in the surgery room working for more than ten hours. I bursted into tears when he told me that my surgery was very successful, and felt deeply guilty at the same time by making the doctor working so hard for me.

With nurses' help, I came back to my recovery room, where I have been well looked after by a nurse during the night. She came into check my conditions every hour to make sure everything was ok to me.

The recovery was bit of torture to go through, as I have very thin skin, Dr Lee has to harvest dermis around my coccyx area, so I cannot lie down flat and have to lay on the side. But each day, I felt that I am recovering better and better. I still have the cast on my nose and did not have a look of my nose whole profile yet, but I take Dr Lee’s world, if he is happy about his work, I should be more than happy with it. The reason I say this is that I have met a girl who came from the States, she had her nose done and also had fat grafting on her forhead and chin to match her new nose. I truly believe that she looks perfect when I saw her, but Dr Lee as a perfectionist told her that her case was very hard and he was not 100% happy about the job. LOL, how funny, I am sure it is many girls dream to have a perfect profile like hers, but Dr Lee was way too strict to himself.

Sorry for the long post guys, hehe… hope your patience was not worn out by me yet. All right, here comes to the conclusions of my impression to VIP clinic so far:

First, Dr Lee is a very skillful and experienced doctor, he truly cares about his patients. He will do the best for each individual client no matter how much trouble it takes. He has done fellowship with Dr Gunter and Dr Byrd, the two most famous doctors in America, and he is a fully qualified famous plastic surgeon in Korea.

Second, VIP clinic has a bunch of more than great administrative staff, who again truly care about you and support you and provide you as much convenience as they can. From administrative girls to nurses, they are all inspired by the great culture of the clinic and aim to deliver the very best services for every single client. They have really nice facilities such as nice recovery room where you can stay after the surgery for couple days with IV injections and a great office hotel more like a self serviced apartment, with kitchen, tv, internet, computer and washing machine. I felt I am bit of spoiled by staying in this place and when I open my window, I see amazing night views of Seoul and Seoul tower.

Third, doing a nose job is not just about adding some implants in your nose and create a higher nose, analyze the structure of nose and perform a surgery based on your own foundations of your nose is far more important than just create a higher nose. A lot lot of Korean plastic surgeons will stick an implant into your nose and claimed that it will last life long. You truly need a doctor who speaks of his mind like Dr Lee. And perform rihnoplasty taking into account of your nose and face structure.

Forth, some very famous clinics actually do not provide the tailored service to each client, they are too busy to care. Some clinics hire very young graduates doctors and the patient will never know who really perform their surgeries.

I will keep you guys updated with my result, all I can say is so far I am very happy.

sorry to confuse you dear, he did use my ear cartilage on my tip area, the donated rib was used on my nose column ( I forgot the medical word for this bit:P). So half year later, my nose column is deviated and contracted due to the donated rib absorbtion. I could not see my column even on the side of my nose. He chose to use this material without discussing with me and without telling me the truth afterwards. I am willing to share my before and after pictures with you as long as you promise me you will not show it to other people. I believe the picture will speak of the truth to you and you will understand why I was so depressed after my nose was done by him.

Do you think you can PM me your photos? I kind of understand how you describe it. My case is rather similiar, a rather bulbous tip but that will subside. Maybe it's the soft tissues...
