do you have any recommendations for the 'dramatic look' in eye surgery? I have my own short list but I'd like to hear from others, especially since you have first hand experience... ^^

Wooooo this thread is moving :woohoo: and I've only read snippits here and there so far. I think shinyglittery did a good job coming up with questions to ask the doctors but it'll change from case to case depending on what you want to get done and how the consultations go. For me, I didn't exactly prepare a list of questions (although I would strongly recommend this), but I did ask a lot of questions, mostly branching off what the consultant/doctor says. For example, the consultant would say something like "and then they'll insert the implant" and I would ask, "what kind of implant? how many mm?" etc .. so I guess I did follow the natural flow of the 'conversation' in that respect. However, if you didn't get to ask all the questions that you wanted to during the first consultation, make a note of them (while you remember them) and bring them up during your final consultation before the surgery. I do believe that this part of your research (gathering information and coming up with questions for the doctors) is something you can prepare way before any travel arrangements are made - so do it!

The clinics are mostly in Gangnam, apparently it's called 'beauty valley' because there are 1000+ clinics here - all for skin/plastic surgery etc. However, I think.. maybe even BECAUSE of this, that there are only really a select few 'brilliant' surgeons, if that makes sense. It seems relatively easy to pop open a clinic and have doctors graduating from hereandthere because it's a market that's high in demand in Korea (supply and demand, business studies anyone? I hate myself lolol) but ultimately the most practiced and experienced surgeons who are leading experts don't 'increase' along with this expansion. In terms of walking there yourself.. I'd say it's possible. By taxi, JW, Regen and ID were within 10min of each other.. so perhaps maybe a 15-20min walk? Traffic here can be atrocious. You'd also have to probably prepare the address of the clinics in writing in Korean to show the taxi driver. With my translators, although one of them met me at the hotel lobby and the other at Regen, in between traveling, of course I had to pay the taxi fare. It wasn't a lot, perhaps around ~$5 each trip, which all adds up I suppose, but I would've preferred to take the taxi anyway because it was rainy and gross outside xD. Also, having the translators there meant I could just sit back and zone out and follow them around since their knew the place like the back of their hand. Some of the clinics may be a bit tricky to find because they're actually 'upstairs', you'd have to take the elevator to get to the lobby/reception... so if you were to just walk by and you see the sign but only a small space with an elevator there, I guess it could be easy to miss.

Yes I'm in Seoul alone and I actually love it! It was my first trip ever overseas alone so it was a bit tough for the first night, I was really homesick (I think I mentioned it a few posts back) and I was hesitant about flying on the plane too. When my dad dropped me off at Syd Airport Terminal 1 (for international flights) I was like ........ wheredoigowhatdoidowhyamihere but if you have your wits about you (which I gather after a while), there are signs everywhere and even in Seoul, there are signs in English and Japanese and Chinese etc. Since the first night though, I've been going out every day. Even post-op day 1. I love walking around and taking pictures like a mad tourist, I have no reservations whatsoever about being all bruised and bandaged and probably scaring their children. I'm in a different country, I don't know them, they don't know me and I just don't care xD. On the day of my surgery, I actually told the receptionists at my hotel as I was heading out that I was going to get surgery and I'll be back later that night all groggy and bandaged, so please do not be alarmed. They found it really amusing that I was 'warning' them (actually I think if I was witnessing myself tell them this in the third person, I would've found it funny too lmao) and that it's perfectly normal, they know me so they'll recognise me and give me the keys like always.

Personally, I don't think age matters all that much.. like obviously don't try to do any bone cutting surgeries when you're bones are still growing.. but I think most of us are good by the time we're in our 20s. The more important factor is our emotional maturity and ability to take care of ourselves (especially if we're girls since we're an 'easier' target). Be aware of the dangers of traveling alone and reduce the risk of anything happening as much as possible e.g. don't bring your Louis Vuitton bag with your Prada wallet and other such blingblings. Be prepared to have back up everythings just in case. I'll actually prepare a list of some travel advice that I'd recommend (not that I'm an expert >< still learning as I go along ) but yeh, just always be alert and smart about what you do and where you go. Like other forumers have said before, Seoul is generally a safe place (I guess no more dangerous than Sydney) so exercise reasonable precautions and you'll be dandy

Haha me too, I have a goal to read this entire thread as well as its predecessor and the ones on soompi before I go for my surgery.. a bit too ambitious? XD There's just so much info here.

How much did you pay for your accomodation? I'm considering renting an apartment instead since hotels can be expensive. Isn't it scary to go out alone at night? :O Have you watched the movie Taken? Haha it totally scares me so I don't want to travel alone  I should check up travel advice, yeah XD So you're still in Seoul now? Do you think it's better to get surgery done when its winter or summer there? I think I could go during the half year break between semesters so it would be summer in korea. Yeah I was afraid of walking around with puffy eyes but in the end, I'm there for a holiday as well! So I don't want to be locked up in a room. And I wont be there for that long anyway XD When are you scheduled to fly back?

As always, thanks for all the information!

 i feel like I spend way too much time here... I keep seeing my username in like 8 threads as the 'last poster' haha xD time to go anyway! just wanted to say thanks for the invaluable info above ^_^ and you made a good point about making note of the unanswered questions and asking them again... and really... if your surgeon seems to be avoiding a certain question... you're better off avoiding the surgeon...

I completely agree with this. Make your own judgment as every person's experience is biased. I mentioned before how I wanted to get my surgery done at ID Hospital, and there has been numerous posts about awful experiences there by several forumers. I wasn't naive enough to think 'oh, probably just a one of those one in a bajillion accidents, it won't happen to me' and nor was I thinking 'this place is scaring the daylights out of me'. I decided to have a consultation with them first, and from my own experience, I didn't get any major warning signs of anything shifty, I just didn't find that consultation left as much of an impression as my previous two.

At the end of the day, what YOU think looks good/bad is YOUR OWN subjective opinion. That's why it's so difficult when it comes to asking for revisions or asking them to take responsibility for a result you don't like. They go through the possibility of asymmetry(unevenness) and while they do attribute most of this to swelling, human error can occur too. The surgeons are human and even naturally, neither sides of our faces are completely symmetrical - so while we do expect that the surgeon is highly trained and experienced enough to give us the results that we want, we have to be prepared and understand that there is a chance for 'anything' to happen when we undergo surgery.

That's why, in my own opinion, everyone should truly consider if what they want to get done is necessary, and if so, first come to terms with the possibility of disappointment. Dr Seul from JW who specialises in facial contouring suggested v-line for me because my lower jaws made my face seem more round and wide - but honestly, even if I was up for bone cutting surgeries, I still wouldn't want to change that line of my face. I do agree that the V shape is quite beautiful and I can see why it's the 'ideal' shape but I actually quite like my more rounded face. It makes me look 'chibi' and 'cute' and I could live with that. I don't mean to be all preachy/wannabefuturepresident but I'd much rather still look like me, just a more enhanced version of me. I don't want a face that someone can see on the street in HK or Tokyo or whathaveyou because I do think that each person has something unique and they should treasure that. Of course, as I've mentioned before, I don't have any emotional distress so I can also appreciate the other view of wanting to completely change yourself for the better if you are truly unhappy with yourself right now. However, be realistic about the changes you want and I think most importantly, understand that there is a limit to what surgeons can do.

LMFAO TAKEN!! AHAHAHHAHAHA YOU JUST MADE MY DAY :roflmfao:. Yes, I have and if that does ever happen, I'll ask Liam Neeson to hide me in Narnia LOLOLOLOL.

Yes yes I'm in Seoul still, here for another 9? days or so, and no actually, I prefer going out at night! The streets are actually just as busy (in the Myeong Dong shopping area anyway) as during the day but at night it's cooler and not sunny so it's perfect. If you've been a Sydneysider for most of your life (like me), I'd suggest go during Autumn/Spring. Cooler weather is better for the swelling and the wind would really help air out the stitches in your nose and overall make you heal faster.

That said, it snows in Seoul in the winter. And it never snows in Australia.. unless we live in the Snowy Mountains.. I guess. So unless you've been exposed to sub-zero temperatures on a daily basis before, I wouldn't recommend going during the winter. During summer/winter, I think you'd actually feel more inclined to stay indoors to 'shelter' yourself from the heat/cold.. so y'know, just consider that.

I am staying in a hotel and I actually booked it along with my flight as a whole package. The total was ~3000AUD for 2 weeks here but I didn't break it down and do the math to calculate my flight or $/night at the hotel xD I think renting an apartment could be a good idea! However, perhaps a part of me doesn't quite want to make the bed or take out the trash whilst I'm on holiday.. so yeh, I'm happy that I'm in a hotel lol. Sometimes it's the little things that make you happy

Not funnyyyy! I don't have an ex-CIA agent for a father! No one to save meeee T_T Though I guess the mistake of those girls was telling the guy where they lived! I guess so long you stick to places with lots of people and don't give out personal information, it should be fine D:

yeah I agree, I hate extreme weather so nice cool/fine weather is best! Except it doesn't really fit into my schedule since I will be going back to uni next year and autumn/spring is when I have uni ahhh  Taxis are cheap there, right? If not, I'll probably walk from my accomodation to the clinics.. xD

Oh and I totally agree with you on just enhancing your own individual features that make you unique. I think the korean standard of beauty is quite narrow so unless its reaaaally necessary, I would avoid doing too many procedures there because you end up looking like a standardized 'beauty' with similar jaw/chin/eyes/cheekbones to other people who've had surgery since everyone has the same idea of what's beautiful.

I hope you enjoy the rest of your trip! Have you bought a lot of souvenirs? I want to try lots of food when I'm there XD and at least go to SM Ent building once haha XD

I declared it when I landed. The short & quick form is provided to you after you go through immigration.

I picked up my luggage and filled the form out. They directed me to another window where a personnel asked what I plan on doing with the money. He kind of hinted me what to say while he gets the stamp and ink ready.. he asked "is this amount going to be for shopping?"

i said: "sure" **Stamps form and gave me a copy of it**

He didn't really say the amount aloud or anything, so I didn't feel like someone was going to rob me. Also, there are tons of police in the airport.
