sheonlylooks25 Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 Japanese porn star's plastic surgery obsession leaves her looking 'like Dobby the Harry Potter elf'
sheonlylooks25 Posted April 29, 2014 Author Posted April 29, 2014 Rina Nanase says people who dubbed her Dobby because of her similarity with the house elf from the Harry Potter books are just jealous of the surgical shaping she has undergone. WTF jealous of her looks???
shinyglittery Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 surgery is only bad if it doesn't give you what you want. she seems happy..... and confident. even if she is deluded. would it be better if she saw what we all see when she looked in the mirror? would it be better if she just killed herself? not everyone has the same beauty ideal. hot asian men look feminine to some westerners and western (female) celebrities look like masculine (often overweight) transvestites to many asians. or like vultures or pelicans with their huge beaks (at least before their rhino). almost all of us here want to look as close as possible to the beauty ideal in our culture/country (or in Korea haha). she wants to look like that. i think she just got what she wanted. it doesn't mean PS in Japan is bad. if they can make someone happy even if she wants something strange that no one else wanted it before her then doesn't that mean they're really good at PS? i think so. but that picture makes me wonder. did they cut too much bone from her jaw? her teeth need to have a jawbone to attach to. i hope not, if they did it can't be fixed.
k-couture Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 this is more of an issue regarding an over emphasis of beautification within pop culture and mainstream media than it is over varying cultural definitions of aesthetics. There are individuals who tend to be more heavily influenced in an extreme way than others. This (delusional) girl is one such person. Reminds me of the female Ken Doll plastic surgery junkie. I think she not only got v line she also had alot of fat removed from her face. I somehow get the feeling she intended to look like that :S
shinyglittery Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 yes, that's what i said. that's why i feel for her: it cannot be changed now, i hope she will be happy like that for the rest of her life. what is the alternative? she "wakes up" and kills herself? i don't think that's better... i think it's good if she's at least happy.
schmoo Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 I agree - this is an extreme example of trying to conform to a standard that won't work for everyone.
k-couture Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 yar seems like your typical asian girl trying to conform to caucasian standards.
hautemama Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 She looks like an anime character. It isn't a good look in real life...
bigbrowneyedgir Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 Omg..... SHE DOES LOOK LIKE DOBBY!!! That's terrible it's funny but I'm actually horrified for her. I guess her career is eithe over or now catered to a very small niche market that love that Dobby-look
shinyglittery Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 i'm sure her career still isn't over and niche markets usually make more money than mainstream. if there's enough demand
bella147 Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 i actually don't think she's trying to be caucasian, but the weird 'anime standards' like shiny said, i hope she's happy
k-couture Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 funny fact, anime character designs actually began as propaganda modelled after the caucasians. The beauty standard in asia is also heavily influenced by the caucasian aesthetic, in part because mainstream pop culture is flooded with caucasian imagery as visual symbols. I mean I rarely see any asians used in advertising over in the US, Canada or Australia. But in asia we see caucasians in advertising everywhere. I was a bit sad when i read several sociological articles regarding the caucasianzation of asian beauty. And till this day i have yet to come across an asianization of caucasian beauty yet. I can't really say that i myself am unaffected tho, when i was younger and less self aware, certain procedures i underwent were in fact an attempt to westernize certain aspects of my features.
