my experience/review at girinlife

Recommended Posts

Hihi!! I recently just got non-incisional eyelid surgery, eyebag removal, tipplasty, threadlift, and v-line done at girinlife. I'm writing about my experience there cause I noticed there haven't been many reviews on here recently on them, but more on chinese/korean forums. They don't have an in-house translator, but I was able to communicate with them through kakao (I'm assuming they were using a translator app to be able to understand/talk to me) but if you do decide to do a consultation with them, they will call a translator in for you!

Consultation day
I had to take CT scans and some front/side view pictures of my face. Afterwards, I met up with both of the surgeons - Dr. Song (specializes in eyes) and Dr. Lee (specializes in nose/chin). Dr. Song explained how non-incisional surgery worked and showed examples using drawings. Once I understood the method, he used this thin metal stick to show me different creases on my eyelid. I wanted one that was slightly higher than my current one cause it was a little hooded imo, and he was also happy that I preferred a more natural crease  After he had an image of the crease I wanted, we moved on to how he would do the eyebag removal. Once his explanation was done, Dr. Lee came in to see me. He pulled up my CT scans and pointed out where my nerves were, and said he would not go near it. He drew a line on the computer to show how much bone he could cut, and then asked me to show him some pictures of ideal jaws that I liked so he could get a better picture. I told him I didn't want a super sharp chin but a little more rounded haha. He got an idea of the jaw I wanted and then we moved on to my nose. Originally, I wanted to get alar reduction but when he examined my nose, he told me my nostrils aren't big because I have a fat nose, but rather because my nose is on the flatter end. He took q-tips and pressed against my nose and said an alar reduction wouldn't make my nose look pretty, and suggested tipplasty using ear cartilage instead. He then showed me what the result would look like with the q-tips again and we both decided that it would look nice. Dr. Lee told me I would also have some sagging because I have pretty fat cheeks. He recommended a thread-lift because if I were to get just the v-line, my fat cheeks would droop and cover the shape of the cut, and it would look... well, fat LOL. Dr. Lee seemed super knowledgable about everything so I took his word for it and said yes to the threadlift as well. He said he would do his best before leaving the room. After that, an employee discussed the cost of all the procedures together. I managed to score a discount because I was getting multiple surgeries on the same day!
I was able to book a surgery day and paid a 10% deposit. My translator then took me to get my blood tested at another clinic, as well as my heartbeat measured. (you'll also have to pee in a cup so.. keep that in mind) Once all that was done for, I went to the grocery store and stocked up on bananas to eat after my surgery.

Surgery day
I came to the clinic around 9:20 am. They made me put my belongings in a locker and changing into the surgery gown?? it was like stretchy pants and a long ass robe. They told me to wash my face and brush my teeth, before taking more pictures of my face again. I met up with Dr. Song and Dr. Lee once more, and Dr. Song used the same stick to do the crease again and made a mark using a pen. I think he could sense I was really nervous and told me not to worry and it would be done very fast. Dr. Lee came in and asked to see the pictures of ideal jaws I liked once more before drawing some marks on my face as well. (please don't touch your face after like I did lmao literally got ink smudged everywhere). After all that was done, they led me into the surgery room and hooked everything up to me. It was pretty nerve-wracking and I am deathly afraid of needles so when they hooked up the IV I was freaking out. Dr. Song patted my shoulder a couple times and told me it's ok and don't worry multiple times before the local anesthesia hit. I tripped pretty hard for the first hour or so of the surgery? Opened/closed my eyes a couple times when Dr. Song asked me to but other than that all I saw were colours. Once they were done with everything, they moved me to a waiting room with a bed for a short period of time before moving me to another surgery room again. The anesthetist specialist (Dr. Kwon) was in the room and greeted herself before instructing me to take a couple deep breaths with my mouth. Once she put the mask on me, I knocked out.

Post-surgery
I woke up on a surgery bed that was heated - literally the nicest bed in the world omg. My head was dizzy and my throat was dry af. I think a nurse patted me on the shoulders a few times to make sure I was up. I couldn't really talk cause my face was pretty swollen so I kind of gestured the a drinking water hand motion to her and she told me I can't drink water until 8pm. Basically I dozed off in like 15 minute intervals until it was 8pm. Once I got to drink water, I was so happy but it was so difficult at the same time because of the nose packing. The first night was honestly the worst and my throat had never been so dry in my entire life  I kept waking up every 30 minutes cause I needed more water and had to pee. I felt bad every time I went to pee cause my nurse kept coming up to check on me every time I got up even though I didn't press the buzzer thing.. She was a really sweet nurse!! Once the night was over with, I was discharged at 8am and she helped me remove the nose packing as well as cleaned the inside of my mouth and brushed out my hair for me. She helped me call a taxi to my airbnb and walked me to the taxi.

I'm currently 4 days post op and yeah the swelling was sooooo bad the first 3 days... I remember watching all the surgery videos on youtube (sunnydahye, lilisimply, etc) and they all said there was barely any pain. nOOO:huh:OOo that is a lie my cheeks were HURTING. I have decent pain tolerance but it was extremely uncomfortable to the point where I decided to go buy Tylenol and I usually never take pain meds LOL so yeah.. The eyes weren't that bad, they were a bit dry and kept producing mucus for the first two days and it made my vision blurry but other than that it was ok. The nose was also manageable. Toughest part was definitely the v-line because I have to be on a liquid diet. Didn't even eat the bananas I bought  they're just sitting at the corner of my desk, turning black..

I'll update this again when I see more of a change but the swelling has gone now a bit and the pain definitely subsided compared to day 1. So far, I think my results are pretty nice but still have to wait for all the swelling to completely disappear before I can make a final judgement. Hopefully, this post helps you guys who are looking into clinics! Girin isn't really a big or western oriented clinic but I think they did a really good job regardless ^_^

they don't have any deswelling treatments like banobagi or gng (if you're referring to the facials and light ray things!) but they ask you to come in for check-ups for a week straight following your surgery! I got two shots of antibiotics and they clean my nose and stitches everytime, and make sure the inside of my mouth is looking good

Day 7
I got the stitches in my nose and on the side of my ears removed! The nose was a little uncomfortable but definitely not painful. The stitches below my ear were kind of ticklish to take out. Other than that, the swelling has reduced tremendously. My face definitely still looks chubby/swollen but the nose and eyes have gone down a lot. I can open my mouth to the point where I can fit two fingers, but it is still hard to chew down on stuff :'( Hardest struggle for me is not being able to eat food!! especially spicy food lolol I'm the biggest food monster. Hopefully the swelling in my cheeks is mostly gone before I fly back home, but I'm pretty happy with how things look right now!

Thank you for this! I looked into girin for v-line before but communication was a little rough and I was unwilling to pay a deposit for a translator, though they agreed to waive it when I talked to them again after landing in Seoul. I kind of wish I had given them a chance now, their pictures are nice. Were the staff and nurses friendly and easy to talk to, despite language barriers?

the nose/face surgeon is pretty good at english! my translator wasn't with me post surgery for my check ups and i understood things fine haha. they know enough english to get by  if not, they'll translate it on your phone and show you!

they do charge for english translators if you're going in for a consultation, but pay for the translator if you decide to do surgery with them. i think i got 2-3 million krw off my total cost?? they waived the vat fee as well! I don't want to give the exact price out cause others might get quoted differently depending on how hard the surgery would be depending on your own facial structure/how many surgeries you'd be getting done. without any discounts though, I believe the flat prices (if you were just planning to get 1 thing done) for v-line was 6.5mil, tiplasty 4mil ish, and eyes were 2mil (?) it's been almost 2 weeks since I saw the prices BUT IF MY MEMORY'S CORRECT those numbers should be about right ^_^

Ohh the flat prices are surprisingly pretty reasonable... may I ask if you automatically got quoted the discounted price when selecting multiple procedures at once, or did you have to take initiative to bargain for it?

the consultant basically said this was the flat price, but I can discount it to etc... I didn’t bargain at all (probably should’ve tried but I thought the price was reasonable LOL) the price was definitely within my budget!
