Hi all!

Last month I had a breast augmentation Surgery in Seoul, South Korea.

Since this forum helped me a LOT during the research stage I’d like to also share my review to help other women on the same journey.

Some context:

I am a 32 year old woman from Switzerland, of African origins. Like most women in my family we were not gifted with big breast so I determined quite early on that I will one day have a breast augmentation.

After having saved enough money I needed to decide where to have my procedure.

My main concerns were of course, finding a Top surgeon to do a great job and also one who will understand my extreme worry with scarring.

Seoul Cosmetic Surgery and Banobagi Clinic:

Working as a consultant and traveling a few times a year to Seoul for business, I was already familiar with the city and the top cosmetic surgery industry which is why I decided on doing the procedure in Seoul instead of choosing an European country.

I was lucky to meet with Mona and Dean from Seoul Cosmetic Surgery during a business exposition on the beauty industry that I attended to earlier this year. I connected right away with Mona Hanson. As a black woman working in the Korean Beauty industry for years, she understood my needs and apprehensions about having surgery in a foreign country, with no point of references and the language barrier. Her and Dean dedicated their time and resources to help foreigners like me navigate the Cosmetic surgery field and get the best services in the most comfortable way possible.

Seoul Cosmetic Surgery (SCS) is a government approved, medical tourist agency based in Seoul with an emphasis on helping foreign clients who are traveling to Korea for cosmetic surgery. They curate the best doctors, clinics and procedures for traveling clients as well as taking care of any logistic aspects like travel plans, accommodations, pre/after operation care.

This was exactly the type of help I needed to make a decision and after discussions and more research, I decided to use Seoul Cosmetic Surgery services and travel back to Seoul months later for my surgery.

About the procedure:

I had several discussions with Mona and Dean about what I wanted:

  • The best implants available

  • A surgeon who had experience with other type of skin texture and could understand how important it was for me to have the minimum scarring.

They proposed Banobagi clinic (which I already knew from my research) and Dr. Han, Kyu Nam to do my breast augmentation procedure.

The BA adventure:

Once everything got sorted with SCS (flight arrangement, duration of the stay, operation date..) I flew to Seoul. I’m not going to lie I was a blend of nervous, excited and happy. After all those years I was finally ready to upgrade my little 75A (34A).

Consultation day:

A few days after my arrival, I met with Mona who accompanied me to my schedule at Banobagi.
I had to do medical checkups and consult with the doctor to decide on my implants type and size.

What I did:

  • Topless pictures for 3D modelisation of my upper body
  • Blood tests
  • Electrocardiogram + X-rays
The Banobagi staffs were very efficient and thorough with the whole process.

They checked for possible breast tumors due to my age (30+), also I suffer from chronic anemia and although my personal doctor at home cleared me for surgery before I traveled to Seoul, the doctors at Banobagi still provided me with supplements I needed to raise my blood cells level (before and after surgery) as well as prepare in case I may need more after the operation.

At every step I had Mona as well as a Banobagi translator with me to make sure all my questions were answered and communication ran smoothly between me and the medical staff.

The results of all my tests were positive so I could have surgery the next day.

After all the medical tests were done, I met with Dr. Han.
Dr. Han left a very good impression on me, not only because he was incredibly nice and fluent in English but because he was very patient and comprehensive with me.

Not having done any cosmetic surgery before I had a LONG list of questions I wanted to ask and also voice some of my apprehension.
Dr. Han listened and answered to all of my questions (even the technical stuffs) and made sure I understood how he will proceed for my operation step by step. I had a vague idea of what I wanted (natural looking, a full C cup/small D cup), after trying the tiny sizing shirt with the sizers I decided on 375cc.

The doctor took my chest and breast measurements and determined that I could fit around 400cc. I felt I was in good hands with Dr. Han so I followed his recommendation.

Thanks to Mona my stay at the Banobagi clinic was already arranged and she had the room key ready for me. After my appointments at the clinic she helped me check-in my bags at the clinic’s guesthouse.

8h fast + restless night ahead lol

D-day:

I woke up at the Guesthouse hungry and tired but very excited.

I decided to prepare my room for my return by asking the nice ajumma (old lady) working at the guesthouse to give me more pillows to be more comfortable.
I couldn’t shower, put on moisturizing cream/makeup nor could I drink until the operation. I basically just washed my face, brushed my teeth and went to meet with Mona at the clinic.

Right before the operation I sorted out the paperwork and met with the Dr. Han for my last minute questions and confirm the operation specifics:

I will get Motiva Ergonomix implants (without chips), 400cc, Dual plane (under the muscles) with Infra-mammary fold correction.
A quite average procedure as I had no special condition that would demand any particular action during the surgery.

I changed into some sexy paper underwear, pink robe and slippers. I said a quick “au revoir” to Mona then went to the operating room. I remember being quite nervous but when I lied down on the operation bed, the mattress had been previously heated so I wasn’t cold. The warmth was very relaxing and comforting, I went under anesthesia easily.

I woke up a few hours after in the recovery room, very thirsty and with a very heavy feeling on my chest area (like an elephant was sitting on me kinda lol). A nurse nicely explained to me that they will let me drink as soon as I can breathe deeply.

I spent the first night at the clinic, in the observation room where the nurses monitored my progress. I felt okay after waking up from the anesthesia. I had the IV with the pain killers, no nausea. I was mostly hungry and thirsty.

As soon as I could breathe properly they gave me water and some warm, light porridge to eat.

A few hours after I ate I was able to slightly move around and was encouraged by the nurses to walk a little in the hallway.

The next morning Mona and Dean visited me at Banobagi. I was very grateful for their company as I was practically alone in a very weak state. Them staying with me until after I was discharged felt really great.

Dr. Han came to see me after the operation to see how I was doing and tell me how the operation went. I could only take a quick look at the result but it was glorious. It was very early but I could tell he did an incredible job. I had absolutely no hematoma, no extra bleeding. The incisions had been closed with some bonding glue and looked very clean and small.

After he left, Mona and Dean took me to the pharmacy to get my medicine prescription (antibiotics, pain killers...) and then helped me settle in the guest house.

About Banobagi Guesthouse:

SCS had arranged for me to stay at the Banobagi guesthouse for the duration of my stay, from operation day until my last checkup (15 days). The Guesthouse is super convenient as it is situated right next to the clinic as well as the pharmacy.

The room is small but comfortable with a "Hospital bed", TV, WIFI, little fridge and small closet.

The toilet and bathroom are shared but they are constantly kept very clean by the cleaning staff who comes every morning.

Healthy lunch meals (korean food mostly) are provided and distributed every weekday at noon. They also provide you with plenty of Juk (porridge) in the room that you can eat whenever.

I choose to stay at the guesthouse for its very convenient location (right next to the clinic, calm neighborhood) but still close by many attractions for when I will be ready to walk around.

Staying at the guesthouse really enabled me to focus on recovery.
