  1. Hi All

I decided to start a new thread for those that aren’t interested in the research part and just wanna jump right into the details. In my previous thread https://beautyhacker.com/forums/topic/1011618-cosmetic-surgery-researching-in-seoul-for-african-rhinoplasty-and-anti-aging-procedures/page-2#post-33167018 while I was researching I mentioned I choose to go with GNG Hospital for my procedures. I had 2 English translators assigned to me by the hospital and swapping when one isn’t available and when there were both available they both came together to a seamless handover so there was never a time I was relaying messages between them.

The surgery was scheduled for Saturday at GNG Hospital and I arrived and met with my English translator assigned by the hospital and shocking I later discovered she was there the entire time from 08:20am until my surgery was done which was around 18:00. She waited for me while I was in surgery and when I woke up she came in and together with the nurses we went into my room and she left when I was nicely tucked into bed which was around 20:00. A full the entire day she was only focusing on me. Oh wow I was really thankful.

I was kept at the hospital for 2 night and I have a story to tell about rhinoplasty. Let me not get carried away so let me be logical.

I arrived at 08:20am, checked in, got my weight taken, shown my recovery room and I was asked to wash my face and change into hospital wear. We then moved into meeting with both Dr Seong (rhinoplasty) and Dr Park (stem call fat graft and endotine brow/forehead lift) for final consultations and face drawings / marking.

I was told the order of the surgery will be 1) harvest fat first and it will go for preparation, 2) rhinoplasty, 3) endotine brow/forehead lift and 4) face fat graft. I had the fat taken from the back of my thigh under sedation. Guess what? ZERO bruising and minor pain on the thigh the fat was harvested from. WOW!! That’s the part I recall until I woke up at 18:00. For the rhinoplasty and endotine and fat graft was all under general anaesthesia.

    Day 0 - Saturday immediately post-surgery:

I have had general anaesthesia 3 times before in my country and I experience zero side effects and I was pretty confident that I will be ok. Boy I was so wrong. I woke up I had blurry vision, I was dizzy and vomited pretty much all Saturday night and my head was throbbing from the pain from the surgeries. The night nurse came to check on me several times and she kept on giving me water and helping me with anything I needed. Man this is a night I honestly don’t wanna go back to. The night nurse really felt pity for me and I could see in her eyes that she was almost crying on my behalf. She was telling she had done the rhino herself and she understands what I am feeling right now. She sat with me for a few minutes in the room while I was feeling sorry for myself and she taught me some technique how to breathe through the mouth. I didn’t eat anything the whole day by the way and I wasn’t hungry. I was just in pain and unfortunately I had to let the anaesthesia wear off. The night came and light came and I didn’t even sleep.

    Day 1: Sunday post op

This was the height of everything, pain, swelling, discomfort, sleep deprivation, you name it. The cotton nose stuffing was really getting to me mentally. There was a point I was going psycho on myself and asking myself why on earth I did this to myself. I couldn’t see how I was going to survive until 09am Monday to have the nose cotton stuffing taken out and I hadn’t slept for more than 24hrs. But I must admit the nurse really consoled me she told me she went on for 2 days straight without sleep and she knows how bad this is it. I’m lucky she could relate with me and gave me care. I didn’t want anything to eat I was asked to force feed myself so that I can get strength back. I choose to have pumpkin soup. I was not hungry at all and it was over 48hrs without food just water. My swelling was sooooo bad that my eye were pretty much shut and I had to walk with assistance. I was told to not look down and always keep my head up at most times as this will help a lot with the dizziness and pain. I did a few corridor walks to nothing helped I was just at the messy of Mother Nature, painkillers and antibiotics. The nurse promised me I will be the first person as soon as the treatment facilities open to be called to take the cotton nose stuffing out.

    Day 2: Monday post op

The nurse delivered on her promise. By 10:00 I was on level 6 Treatment floor everyone ready to remove the cotton stuffing and at each and every step was explained to me. Yeah this part is the most uncomfortable part. But hey I will take the pain of taking the cotton nose stuffing out than the pain of having then in and not being able to breathe. I also saw the doctors and they did their checks and I discharged with a bunch of medication, goodie bag of pumpkin extracts and I was told to come daily for deswelling treatment and to come and see the doctor on Wed and Friday. Pretty much I will be seeing the doctor every 2nd day until I get to leave Korea.

    Day 3: Tuesday post op

I arrived for my post op deswelling treatments and nose cleaning. Both the translators where there waiting for me. Remember I wasn’t supposed to see the doctor. I was sitting by the LED deswelling light and I saw this man in regular clothes walking to me and I realised it’s the doctor. He said its his day off today but he decided to pop by to check how I am doing and he checking the face for a few minutes and once he was done he walked out of the building. I was very impressed that on his day off he popped by to check on his patients. Nice after care indeed.

Let me not forget the care the translators have been giving me. When I got discharged they organised a taxi for me paid for by GNG and also said I must contact them directly should I need any assistance e.g. good ordering, food buying etc. They will do all that while I recover.

I will post again in about a 1 week once the face has settled where I can see my face properly. Right now im way too swollen to say anything about my results. But I can see my nose is definitely smaller than what it was before.

  2. I thought I should give an update on my journey so far. I landed in Seoul on Tuesday and yeah jet lag hit me hard. The next 4 days I went for 3 face to face consults at these clinics: GNG, View and Uvom.

Day 1 in Seoul I just slept – lol.

Day 2 in Seoul: Consultation with GNG: 1200 – 15:45 (idle time roughly 45min due to moving in between floors for tests, doctors wait was roughly 20mins – well I arrived early so my fault lol)
Arrived at the hospital 30mins early and I got attended to right away and filled in forms etc. My translator was already there but on another floor and when he heard I was there he came down to meet with me, after all I was 30mins early. It was a super relief to know that he was formally living in the US for a VERY long time because that gave me a comfort feeling that messages from Dr to me and vice versa will not be too “diluted”. I completed all forms, took pictures, MANY pictures, had my head 3D scans, ECG test, chest x-rays, blood taken and pee sample taken for tests. Yeah pee sample I didn’t see that one coming my way. Spend about 1h-1h30min consulting with the GNG consultant + translator to discuss my concerns being the following. 1) Wide bulbous nose 2) Forehead lift to lift my eye brow so that the upper eyelid saggy skin disappears and “iron out” my emerging forehead bumpy skin aka first signs of ageing (sigh) and 3) Full face fat graft to add back volume to my face. Note: I want the volume I had when I was 30 years old and not to change myself. With that said I went with my younger-self pics to consultation to demonstrate what I want along with wish pics for nose and eye brow lift. Before I forget the translator was provided by GNG I didn’t source one.

Post the consultant meeting, I met with Dr Seong the head surgeon there for my rhino and Dr Park for forehead lift and fat graft and I think I spend about 30mins with each doctor. I felt the doctors understood my needs and how they can meet them. What I appreciated was the push back when something was not achievable because I don’t want a doctor who is going to sell me fake dreams.

My 3D scans revealed that I have small nasal passages naturally which is still normal as doctor said. He (Dr Seong) also said looking at my current internal nasal passages if he shrinks the nose the way I desire it to be I am without a doubt risking the possibility of having breathing problems. He said shrink the nose from outside = shrink the internal nasal passages. For people like me with smaller nasal passages we are at risk of developing breathing problems if no internal functional nose adjustments are made to accommodate the nose shrinking from the outside. He suggested that I do functional (internal) nose passages widening, in essence shrink the nose outside and make the nose inside bigger – reversing things - AKWARD (hahahaha)

Price: the initial price was outside my budget and the minute I said lets negotiate GNG was able to come to the party and made things fit within my budget. I was happy with GNG more especially that they are ENT Plastic Surgery and my breathing is priority considering I would like to preserve the integrity of my nose functions.

Because my GNG consultation overran and I didn’t mind as I was the one dragging it that long asking questions and wanting clarity, I texted Cinderella to cancel as I wasn’t going to be able to make it to them on time.

Day 3: Consultation with View: 13:00 – 15:00 (idle time 1hr because I was waiting purely for doctor yet I had an appointment).
Arrived at View, completed forms and went for pictures and then went into a room where I wanted for the consultant. It wasn’t a long wait. We did the consultation with the consultant listing the exact same stuff I mentioned above and then I had to wait for 1hr for the doctor to come and that consultation with the doctor was around 15mins long. I did feel he understood the overall structure of what I wanted but he suggested I shouldn’t do the fat graft now and he didn’t want to reduce my alar and that’s my major area of concern.

Price was it was slightly higher than expected especially with less things involved in the surgery and very reluctant to price negotiation and gave a very low discount.

No tests done nothing and only 2 pictures taken front and 45 degree angle (shocked!!). Maybe they do the tests when you have signed up with them?? I don’t know. By the way the View has in house translators.

Day 3: Consultation with Uvom: 10:00 – 12:30 (idle time 30-45mins because I was waiting for consultant yet I had an appointment).
Arrived at Uvom, completed forms and went for pictures, more pictures than View but definitely less pics than GNG. They offered me a translator as well of which both of us then went into a room for 30-45mins and waited for the consultant to come, yes the consultant not the doctor. Hmmmmm I had an appointment its not like I just showed up right. Same story repeated about my concerns. The consultation was very impressive and VERY detailed. That I must give it to them they do know how to impress. I spend quality time with the Dr Lee and Dr Kang and I was very satisfied with my consultation. Just like with View no tests where done. Maybe they follow the same approach, who knows.

    Final outcome:
I have decided to go with GNG purely because I liked the tests they did just on day 1 without even knowing I was going to sign up with them or not. The tests they did revealed details of what others couldn’t see and therefore they couldn’t advise me about the risk of breathing problems post-surgery due to my small nasal passages. Them being an ENT and cosmetic surgery hospital they are able to mitigate the risk of having breathing problems by making internal functional nose adjustments which non-ENT clinics cant do therefore GNG made me feel im in better hands and my expectations were managed. Im scheduled to go under the knife tomorrow. I will document my journey probably 1-2 weeks post op because as you can imagine I will in recovery mode and not in the best shape to be typing lol.

  3. One thing
Today marks T-5days before i touch down in Seoul for my life changing event. Well im hoping the life changing event is for the better and not the worst. I have done all research i could do remotely and now its time to embark on face to face consultations.

After several online conversations with the following clinics: GNG, Cinderella, View, Uvom, The Grand, ID, and JK, i have narrowed it down to the following clinics for face to face consultations: GNG, Cinderella, View, Uvom and The Grand . Why did i cut out ID, DA and JK?

ID: I just didn't feel comfortable with them during our online conversations and i also their results on African noses arent my kind of results that i would want for myself.

DA: they just purely didn't respond!!! Yip nothing at all.

JK: Where do i start? They responded to half of my concerns and they said they will get back to me with the other half. This was 3 weeks ago and even today no response. So i thought nah let me not entertain them because i would not want to be ignored post surgery when i really have a serious concern.

I will post again when have completed by back to back consultations which will be in the 14 June.

  4. You have nailed what I always say which is people say this and that click is blotching people and when I actually look at the so called blotched results I shake my head in disbelief because I see no blotching but I see an issue of expectations unmanaged hence client crying out with fowl okay whereas there is no blotching. People expect miracles and unfortunately even highly skilled surgeon aren’t miracle makers. People aren’t real with their expectations. For me blotching is coming out with a nose that’s collapsed or completely uneven without asymmetry looking way worse than my original nose etc, ie those kind of things. I’m always said I will be happy and over the moon with an overall improvement of my nose because a complete reinvention of any nose is impossible to get. Look I will be even happy with just alar reduction that’s how realistic I am!

  5. Thanks for the feedback. Noted. Have you ever done a rhino? If so what was your experience?

  6. Hi there....She had bad results of her rhinoplasty. Nose collapsed and went back to original nose pre-op. I personally don't pay extreme attention to how people were treated because there is a variety of reasons why that can happen, maybe the person had a bad day or the client was unreasonable, reasons are lots....For bad treatment i look at it as a case by case thing for me. But i do care about blotching results.

  7. A lady in one of the KakaoTalk PS group chats has shared a damning story about VIP and supporting proof In a form of a document drafted by vip to her trying to silence her. I would not set foot at VIP due to their ethics and what they do to cover up blotching. Makes perfect why they don’t have bad reviews. However I do appreciate your information but I would pass on VIP in case I have an issue I don’t want to be her situation.

  8. For those that want to get live and fast feedback from me, kindly note i am on KakaoTalk and in several KakaoTalk PS chat groups and i will provide immediate feedback to the KakaoTalk group chats as i go on my research and surgery journey. PM me if you want to follow me on KakaoTalk

  9. Hi there. I have checked to the extend of what I could do remotely meaning the likes on talking to some people who are black who have gone there who are willing to talk + online posts + a few lifts sent to me. However even with that said I still need to do face to face consultations and browse through their entire booklet of patients before and after pictures to see their experience. Also I’m not only looking for African rhinoplasty I’m also looking out for Asian nose cases that are very similar to my own nose structures which I have seen there is quite a few Asian noses looking like mine pre-op. But the proof will be in that face to face consultations. I will share my experience and what I find

  10. I am of African ethnicity and currently 37 years old (2019). I never had a problem with my nose until I got to be 33 years old 4 years old. I noticed my nose was somewhat getting bigger. I know this doesn’t make sense but it looked like it was and still is. Maybe it’s because Im loosing elasticity?? I don’t know. In addition to the nose issue, I noticed I’m developing deeper tear trough lines and nasolabial folds and loosening of the forehead skin. Sigh aging is kicking in.

Today marks T-15 days before I travel to Seoul for face to face consultations with several clinics there. I have reserved 4 days of back to back face to face consultations with: GNG, View, Uvom, Grand, Cinderella, ID, JW and DA. These are the clinics I have been on several online consultations with them for a few weeks already. The reason i choose Seoul is that Asian nose structures are similar to African ethnicity the likes of flat little to no bridge and wide etc and Seoul is the capital city of cosmetic surgeries.

I haven’t decided on who to go with but the face to face consultation will be my ultimate decider. Should I really like one of the clinic then I will right away schedule myself to have surgery on the 15 June to address the above mentioned issues.

Let’s see what Seoul holds for me in 2 weeks.
