ashly117 Posted October 15, 2017 Posted October 15, 2017 I know there's a bunch of reductions and shavings. but what about implant? Specifically chin implant? Any rough costs estimates? Thanks in advance.
andy-l-park Posted October 15, 2017 Posted October 15, 2017 Korean's around 1,500usd~1,700usd, Foreigner's 2,000usd~2,500usd
ashly117 Posted October 15, 2017 Author Posted October 15, 2017 @Andy.L.Park Thanks! Any clinic recommendations?
egobia Posted October 15, 2017 Posted October 15, 2017 I once had a consultation about the implant at the same clinic I had PS. That time it was 2,200 usd to 1,800usd.
ashly117 Posted October 16, 2017 Author Posted October 16, 2017 Just to clarify this is NOT genioplasty. This is a silicone chin implant I'm talking about
fried-hip Posted October 16, 2017 Posted October 16, 2017 sorry if this is a dumb question, but wats the diffrence between genioplasty and silicone implant? genioplasty is bone surgery?
ashly117 Posted October 16, 2017 Author Posted October 16, 2017 @Fried$hip Genioplasty is when the cut your chin bone and extend it. Chin silicone implant is just inserting an implant after making an external incision at the bottom of the chin and placing the implant over your chin bone. The downtime is considerably lower than genioplasty.
versible Posted October 17, 2017 Posted October 17, 2017 I'm sure it is. I have consulted few clinics and some of them offering me chin implants as alternative for genioplasty.
twocupcakes Posted October 18, 2017 Posted October 18, 2017 The cheapest I've had quoted for a silicone chin implant in Korea is one million won. I've forgotten the name of the clinic (I didn't end up getting it), but I could probably dig it up if anybody is interested.
gats Posted October 19, 2017 Posted October 19, 2017 The downtime is lower initially but remember implants have a limited lifespan, so some time in the future you'd need to get it replaced and go through it all again. I'd rather just get something done once and be over with it for the rest of my life.
ashly117 Posted October 20, 2017 Author Posted October 20, 2017 Not sure if this is true...where did you find this information? I was told that implants can last a life time. Or else why do some surgeons offer, say, medpor chin implants that cannot be removed easily as they adhere to the tissues?
gats Posted October 20, 2017 Posted October 20, 2017 While the material may last a life time, foreign objects in the body may need to be removed later for other reasons like infection, displacement, etc. We're talking about something you'll have in your body from say age 20 to yours 90s, many things can happen during that time. When it comes surgery, I'd always opt for the body's own tissue if it's an option as it is here. That's just me though.
caliroll Posted October 20, 2017 Posted October 20, 2017 Why would you go through with something as extreme as a genioplasty when an implant will achieve the same thing? chin implants are usually well tolerated. There are secondary issues with genioplasty that you should probably look into.
peri-winkle Posted October 20, 2017 Posted October 20, 2017 @Ashly117 This is what I've found from my research on both methods. As @Gats mentioned, I've seen more people get an infection and eventually remove their implant (not sure if this applies to medpore, but our bodies do tend to reject foreign substances esp over time, as I haven't seen any long term 10+ years research on it). Some doctors on medical forums say implants are expected to last avg of 10 years. "The benefits of genioplasty include added projection in both the vertical and horizontal dimensions. There are extended chin implants, but they fail to correct any vertical deficiency. Additionally, a chin implant will cause resorption of the bone in the long term." "In brief, medpore is indicated for mild to moderate horizontal chin deficiency while osseous genioplasty is recommended for any chin"
