  1. Some of you will probably remember my story. I was butchered in a very reputable clinic in South Korea. I went to "an expert" and ended up with several functional and cosmetic problems. I had cheekbone reduction to make my face less wide, but, after surgery, my face was still wide except that now I had sagging, non-union, eyes were being pulled down by the tissues sagging, couldn't chew, couldn't yawn. It was beyond horrible. I realized, only too late, that what determines the facial width are not the zygomatic arches per se but the centre of the face, how expanded it is in width. So, reducing the cheekbones make things worse because it does not alter the anatomical width of the face. If you study the facial anatomy, you would understand why cheekbone reduction doesn't make sense. Imagine taking a big, square box. You chop off the external borders/corners. You will still have a square, wide box but with its borders chopped.

Anyway, it took me years to find a surgeon and I found a craniofacial surgeon in Texas, Dr. Payne, after everybody else turned me down because my case was too difficult. Not only did I have huge gaps (non-union) and bones "floating" in my face, but the surgery aged me 15 years, no kidding. So, Dr. Payne had to do a very difficult and meticulous operation restoring the natural anatomical contours, giving me the malar eminces back and resuspending the facial envelope.

I can't be happier with what Dr. Payne did for me. These cat scan images speak for themselves. The surgeon from Korean guaranteed me that he has been doing this for over 25 years, he gives speeches in conferences and universities, he is a world renown expert in Zygoma operations and that he never, ever, ever had a complication, let alone sagging. What a crock of ****. I cannot put into words how angry I am at him.

  2. Thank you. I am sorry if my language is a bit harsh but I am really trying to help. Since 2013 (and then 2014 when I had the surgery in Korea), I have been reading, interviewing docs, speaking to other patients, consulting literally dozens of maxillofacial and craniofacial surgeons. I know what I am talking about. I can speak with authority.

  3. I am happy now, thanks to a US surgeon. I do not need any psychiatrist, unlike you. I am here to spare other people because you have no idea, NO IDEA, how many people get butchered in Korea. NO IDEA!!! One of the problems is that US surgeons are regulated in a very stringent way. IN Korea, a 22 year old dentist can and will do facial surgery. There is no racism because my best friends are Asian (from Japan, China, Cambodia), so, spare me the racism card. You cannot compare a board certified surgeon in the US with someone doing surgery in Korea. That is crazy, insane, unfair for the US doctors who have spent years and years in training. These Korean clinics want your money. Then, there is also another problem. You can't sue in Korea. Ha ha, good luck, as a foreign patient, trying to see a Korean doc for medical malpractice for elective surgery. Most importantly, Korean surgeons use unethical, unscrupolous stratagems to promote their surgeries. That include but is not limited to photoshopped pics, different angles, lighting, all imaginable tricks. I know what I am talking about, I am not speaking out of my ass. Are you listening? I saw a lot of these patients in real life and let me tell you they look NOTHING like the before and after pics that these clinics use to advertise.

  4. you are an idiot. I am in touch with literally dozens of people who have been butchered in Korea. You wanna tell me that the doctors from Korea have the same training of US surgeons? Are you nuts? I have done my research for years. You are just delusional and have a distorted perception of reality. I am sure you have no critical judgement to assess how you look and whether your result is really that good.

  5. I am not going to censor myself. I have to tell you the truth. I have researched these topics obsessively for years, so, you have no right to tell me what to say and what not to say. Zygoma reduction is a very bad surgery, in terms of aesthetic and functional outcome. That being said, korean surgeons have not the same type of training as US surgeons. End of discussion. Case closed.

  6. yes, I look pretty much pre-surgery and he used no implants, just repositioned everything up and used screws

  7. Exactly, this is a very intelligent response. a 3D cat scan is of a paramount importance to determine if the asymmetry or bulkiness are caused by bones or muscles. In addition to that, when after my surgery I started seeing sagging and skin pulling my eyes down and also huge gaps, I told him I wanted to do a cat scan on my own and pay for it, and he tried to talk me out of it saying a cat scan is useless, that it causes cancer and that he is the number 1 surgeon in Korea for cheekbone surgery. I should have known better. Stay away!

But, yes, I can't stress the importance of a cat scan enough.

  8. The sideburn incision was gonna be more visible. It was not a pinpoint incision, he should have cut like 3 cm per sideburns to access the arches. The zygomatic arches were very very low, it’s hard to explain in writing. So, the best approach was coronal because the scar is hidden. But, that was not sufficient, he still had to do other two incisions. My zygomatic arches were so destroyed and so far far down that he needed several points of access. It was mot only one part of the zygomatic arches that were destroyed but the WHOLE malar complex, the arches and the buttress. I researched obsessively for 4 years and this was the ONLY approach for my case. I am sure for less severe cases, they can do it intraorally.

Then, something else. The fat pad was resuspended, yes. I can see it. The facial envelope was lifted. However, that bastard destroyed some facial ligaments. That can’t be recovered.

Sorry if I use bad words, I am angry. I bless my surgeon for saving me.

  9. He had to use three incisions: a coronal incision for the zygomatic arches, an intraoral incision (inside of the mouth) for the buttress and zygomatic eminence and an transconjunctival incision (near the eyes) to fix the pulling down of the eyes.
It was a complete disaster. 4 years of hell. That is why I am so angry and I don’t want other people to go through this.

My cheekbones are now completely full. The sagging is fixed 80% but the other part of sagging is not dependent upon fullness. It’s an issue of ligaments, periosteum, facial pads that the bastard from korea destroyed

  10. The problem with these doctors who perform cheekbone reduction is that they do not explain things well to their patients. Most patients have cheekbone reduction thinking it will make their wide face narrower. Nothing can be further from the turth. The width of the face is determined by the maxilla (the facial surface where the nose and eye sits). Narrowing the cheekbone arches will create hundreds of problems AND the face will still be wideS it will just look off and unnaturally straight. It will lose the anatomical contours.

I had a coronal incision to fix this mess. My surgeon from Texas fixed the eyes and bony part 100%. God bless him. However, to this day, i am furious and livid at the korean surgeon. He lied to me and lied to many other patients.

In order to access the zygomatic arches to break them and narrow them, they have to cut and destroy all of the ligaments, muscles, fat pads that keep the facial envelope up, in a youthful position. There is no other surgery that ages you as much as this one.the surgeon swore up and down that it was not gonna happen, that he was the best in Korea. I was stupid and trusted him. So, a face lift doesn’t fix the problem 100%. Dr Eppley explains it on his website why facial sagging from cheekbone reduction is almost impossible to fix. The ligaments, peristeoum are destroyed forever. The facial envelope doesn’t sit as tightly as before anymore. PLUS, removing the malar eminences is like removing the poles that keep a circus tent up. Can you follow my analogy?

I have seen many patients who underwent similar surgeries. They can look good in photos but NOT in real life. Be careful, these photos can lie

  11. I am in a better place now that I had a revision and 100% of the bone problems were corrected, 100% of the eyes problems were corrected. I still have anger and anxiety because the surgery aged me a lot (the surgery in Korea). I try to work out every day to vent my rage.

My doctor is very good but to be honest with you, I do not know if he would be good with botched jaw surgery. I wish you the best. So many horror stories from reputable clinics in Korea...

  12. My eyes are 100% back to normal after the reconstruction.

As for having a lift done, it doesn't work like that. A face lift can help a patient with intact underlying structure. When these butchers do zygomatic reduction, they cut/damage the ligaments, the muscles, the periosteoum, so, simply lifting the tissues won't do much if the underlying structure has been severed forever. I am surprised my surgeon from the US was able to fix so much of the sagging, considering how horrible my Korea butcher was.

  13. Bone part is 100% fixed

    Sagging is 80% fixed

I might need a bit of filler.

The doctor who operated on me had to spend hours and hours to fix the irreparable damage that bastard from Korea created. There was so much scar tissue that pulled all of my face and eyes down because there were huge gaps in my zygoma and the zygomatic arches pulled everything downward, including the eyes.

I cannot tell you how angry I am, to this day.

  14. Thank you for your kind words. I appreciate. I am using my horrible experience to warn others.

Yes, I recommend my surgeon in the US. I do not recommend Korea, not because I am racist

  15. Some of you might remember me. I used to post in this forum, now, I do not post anymore. I barely check it. I feel compelled to post today because I am another person who had a horrible, horrible, horrible experience in Korea. Like someone else mentioned, there is this myth now that going to Korea for plastic surgery is the best you can do. Truth is the doctors there are not as trained as in the US. They simply aren't.

I am posting because another girl opened a thread saying she was botched in Korea and everybody blamed her and said her post was fake.

I posted my cat scan. I went to a very famous clinic in Seoul and the doctor seemed very knowledgeable and he left me with huge gaps in my cheekbones, I had bone resorption, facial sagging, even my eyes had problems.

It took me over 4 years to find a REAL craniofacial surgeon in the US who could fix me. I too am in contact with other patients who went to different clinics in Korea and ended up with results worse than mine.

Do whatever you want. I do not care. Don't even think of trying me saying I am fake or blah blah blah. If with my post I can save only ONE person from going to Korea, I will be happy.

Also, the swelling hides a lot of deformities. All these people saying they are super happy with their results. Wait. Just wait until the swelling disappears.

    • Thanks 1
  16. Stop! Just stop. You people should be ashamed of yourself. Blaming the victim. I was botched in Korea too. I had cheekbone reduction surgery. I went to the best clinic, one that had stellar reviews, and I ended up with non-union, facial sagging and functional problems. It took me 4 ****ing years to find a surgeon to fix me. You people are absolutely disgusting if you try to gaslight us and blame the victim. I posted several months ago about my experience and a lot of people said nasty things to me because these people like to believe Korea is where God surgeons are. I posted my before and after pictures and my cat scans to show how huge the damage was. You have no right to talk like that to a person who had a horrible experience in Korea. I can speak about my experience and I know other girls who have been botched too, so, it's not unheard of. Enough of this stupid attitude.

  17. It can be done MUCH MUCH better in the US, because US has some good surgeons and some bad surgeons. Korea doesn't have excellent surgeons, simply because they do not have the same high level of expertise. Plain and simple. I have evaluated hundreds of cases. They are just not good. They are overconfident, lie with their stupid pictures, but, they simply do not have the same sets of skills of the best American doctors. Congratulations on your surgery in Beverly Hills. I wish you the best and I am happy you didn't go to Korea.
