  1. It sucks because I think Yoo has better technical ability, but bad sense of aesthetics. I like the recent stuff by Charles S Lee, but he has questionable / highly inconsistent technique AND a horrible reputation of hounding patients legally. I've seen some okay results by Dr. Kassir in NYC. I reached out to Yoo's office a few months back and they also quoted me $20K for a rib revision. Maybe finding a trusted surgeon with a good grasp of Asian aesthetics in the US is just a pipe dream. Sigh...

  2. I 100% agree with the OP. TRUST YOUR INSTINCTS folks. If you feel unsure it's almost always because you know that something is wrong. I was in a similar situation (different clinic). I had doubts right up until I was wheeled in for surgery, and like an idiot I ignored all the signs and my gut telling me to not do it. And I paid dearly for it. If you think that losing a deposit is bad, imagine the indescribable anguish of a bad result. Money can always be made back. This happens every single time on this forum. A clinic gets tons of glowing reviews completely out of nowhere and then eventually they're exposed for shady practices.

This is exactly my fear - describing what I want down to the last detail and the doctor still imposing his aesthetic that I did not ask for.

To the OP, I totally understand the humiliation and anger you are feeling. I was totally botched too by a butcher surgeon. From what I could tell, in your case it seems like they excessively augmented your nose and over projected your tip. It may look bad, but I don't see anything that is beyond fixing. In my situation, my alars were excessively narrowed, and unfortunately that cannot be fixed at all. This is fixable, although it will be a challenge to find a surgeon you can trust. Thank you for being brave enough to expose them. Most people who are botched just disappear and suffer in silence. You did the right thing and will help many people. I was so close to going with them for my revision, but you might have just saved me from being f***ked up even more. So your post has already helped me, and I thank you for it.

In terms of technical ability, I think Yoo is a safe bet. The only thing that makes me unconvinced his is aesthetic, which I hate. I just don't like how he overprojects the nose tip and how high he makes the nose bridge. He seems to excessively augment the radix, the point between the eyes, which gives a very unnatural look on Asians. I think the people who go to him specifically seek him out for this aesthetic. If you want something subtle, I remain highly skeptical about him, but his skill level is definitely there. He does not leave any obvious scarring or asymmetries. I think if you go with him, you have to BE SPECIFIC down to the last millimeter, otherwise you are gambling with him imposing his aesthetic on your face.

  3. Between Dr. Yoo and Dr. Charles Lee, I think Lee has much more natural looking noses. That said, most of his posted results are of PRIMARY rhinos. I have not seen any revisions from him that are convincing. I think if you are doing your first rhino, he may be okay, but I am not convinced he can do a complex revision. Plus, KCouture mentioned that she had a disastrous rhino with him years ago so that makes me concerned. I've been following him for some time and he has a reputation of relentlessly taking legal action against people who spoke out about their bad results. That also makes me very concerned, because he doesn't seem to care much about you after the check is cleared from my research.

  4. Dr. Yoo's work is not natural looking too me. The tips always look too projected and upturned, the bridge too tall, and overall looks like obvious surgery on his asian patients. I think in terms of technical ability he is very good, but I just don't think his aesthetic looks natural. The only surgeon in California who does somewhat natural looking asian rhino is Charles E Lee, but he has had some very negative reviews. And I also believe K Couture had a disastrous rhino with him years ago that was corrected by Dr. Park at Dream.

  5. This guy's before is my dream nose. I don't know why people do this to themselves.

  6. @MissOrange

THANK YOU so much for this information. This is the hard-hitting, no holds-barred information we need. I asked the question several weeks ago if ANYONE had a BAD review of GNG and like I expected, eventually one came to light. This is the thing about these forums - a clinic becomes hot and suddenly the hype gets out of control. It's such a minefield to wade through the suspect reviews and look for the real information.

I was so looking forward to your review of GNG. Now I'm reevaluating GNG, in light of this information. I was f***ked up by a surgeon who did not listen to what I wanted, and I just can't risk going through the same thing again.

  7. Seriously? This is your face. Not to be rude, but take a look at your priorities. And yes, I would go with GNG.

  8. Does anyone here have a negative review of GNG? All I've seen are glowing reviews which, judging based on history in these forums, is sometimes cause for concern? It usually starts off with a burst of glowing reviews and then someone shares a less than stellar outcome. Is GNG really that consistent?

If anyone has a negative review they'd like to share in private, please message me.

  9. I've thought about Chase Lay but honestly I don't think he's skilled in rhinoplasty. His instagram is all eyelid surgeries. For someone who claims to be an expert in Asian aesthetics, he has like 4 examples of nose jobs on his website, and virtually none on his instagram. He has one very negative review on Realself. For eyes, he seems good, but for rhino there's virtually nothing to judge his work.

You guys all gave great advice. I'm sure these thoughtful posts will help many others who feel hopeless in the aftermath of a bad rhino.

Marie, I totally understand the despair after being damaged by a surgeon, but the worst thing to do is to hurt yourself in the process. If you give in, those reckless doctors will have won. They will have essentially silenced you forever. The process of researching a revision surgeon is daunting, but don't give up.

If what you want is significant lengthening, Dr. Donald Yoo is a good choice. His aesthetic is typically long, projected tips. Personally, I hate his aesthetic because I'm Asian and I think it looks artificial on most Asians. However, if you are Caucasian or have a face that needs more length to the nose, he is a good choice. He seems adept at using rib for revisions, and his work seems meticulous. I would consider him for revision if I actually liked his aesthetic. He does have some negative reviews, but all of them are about a mismatch in personal aesthetic, not his actual surgical skill. The ones I've read were Asian patients who complained that their noses were too tall and tips were too projected. Going by your description of your nose, that is exactly what you need.

These surgeons need to be put on blast. Lucian Ion was one of the surgeons who produced, what seemed at the time, consistent good results. It just shows that you can never do enough research. Right now GNG is the "flavor of the month" and but who's to say that something bad won't come out in time?

  11. You have a nice face shape already, and botox will help to slim it down further. Why don't you "test" it out with botox and be sure that you actually like the look of a slimmer face before you do something permanent? Surgery is permanent, not semi-permanent. And as for cost, it would take YEARS before the cost of botox would equal the cost of the surgery. With botox at least you can fine tune over time and if you want to keep making it slimmer. With surgery you're basically stuck with whatever your surgeon decides in surgery. At most, people get botox like 2 times a year to maintain the look. It's not that crazy expensive. It honestly seems like you need to do a lot more research.

  12. But that's the thing though. In a perfect world all doctors are ethical and all patients have a realistic view of themselves. But we don't operate in such a world. It's a sad, tragic situation brought on by a perfect storm of a doctor too quick to say yes, and a patient who can't take no for an answer. Her story really is a cautionary tale for anyone seeking plastic surgery, especially anything on the face. Unfortunately, a lot of us know exactly what it is like to be stuck in revision hell. You are constantly wrestling with the question of "would one more surgery correct my issues" or "am I setting myself up for a complete disaster." I agree that BDD is a very convenient excuse for doctors to smear a patient's name and absolve them of responsibility. That said, in her writings you can sense the desperation and hallmarks of someone with BDD.

I can honestly say now that rhinoplasty is only for people who truly have a nose that is a mismatch with their face. Anyone seeking to tweak here and there or finesse, should think long and hard about it.

  13. I have come across her questions on realself, but had no idea that they were the same person. Unfortunately, when someone with BDD is determined to get surgery, there is basically no stopping them. If one surgeon tells them no, they will keep searching until they find one that says yes. Is what her original surgeon did unethical? Perhaps so, but it's clear that it would not have stopped her.
