I had left over stitches that I went to get taken out last week. *2* assistants pulled out stitches with one holding that high powered light they have. Just this week I saw I still have 1 stitch in there. I don't smell anything, but it is a booger magnet.
Yeah Jesse, I want to know how you like your nose so far. Lots of good reviews for people liking Dr. Lee's work but you'll be the first(that I know of) that went in for non-major enhancement. Interested to see how good he is with the subtle changes.
My smile is completely back to normal. Actually, my septi nasi was cut on purpose to avoid pulling my tip down. So I consider that an improvement. My tip doesn't move at all and I like it that way.
If you look at the video I posted a couple of days post op, I had problems with my upper lip. After reading what Kain and others posted, it was probably swelling that gives the stiff upper lip. I do believe that cutting of the septi nasi will get rid of tip movement when you smile. Since the whole nose is connected to itself pulling on the tip induces slight movements to skin not directly on the tip. If your septi nasi was sewn back, maybe you'll get some tip pull down movement again.
My advice is, find a surgery buddy to walk around with. I know several people who said they didn't feel awkward with their casts on and they all went out with at least one person. This far out you should be able to find SOMEONE. Maybe ask the clinic.
Personally I did feel awkward. Also so many people walk on the street that I was afraid I was going to get my nose hit. If you're in a gang maybe that's less likely. I felt less awkward with my cast on walking around LA than I did in Korea, but maybe that's just me.
The revision rhino book I have has lots of pictures of people with infected implants. In all of them the skin turns red in the area of the infected implant even if it hasn't extruded. I assume there's swelling and it hurts like a mother to touch it. I don't know if it's like those pictures of STD's in textbooks though, where they only show you the worst of the worst.
eta:this is the book I have. There is a picture you can see for free on page 30 of an infected bridge and extruded implant
BTW any of you nosy judgmental people that happened to most recently want to shut these threads down...if you're reading this...this is one of the reasons why I would argue to keep this in health and fitness. This site is one of the top hits on google for English language discussions on surgeries in Korea. Lots of people with actual experience in here sharing with others instead of you guys just displaying all your preconceived notions and personal opinion of something that hopefully never applies to you.
Anyone have a bad smile that the paranasals improved? Most people seem to have smiles they liked, got paranasals which maybe improved their relaxed face but negatively impacted their smile. Maybe it's hard to separate the paranasal effect from the rhinoplasty effect and they probably play off one another?
Glad to hear you're getting better. Did you have an actual revision, or did they just remove the rib cartilage? I mean, are you going to do more work or is that it?
I'm researching this now. I have an underbite which I kinda don't mind because it strengthens the look of my jaw/chin. but I think since I have less support for my upper lip it needs to stretch diagonally a little to reach my lower lip, giving me the dreaded 1/2 monkey scowl (love that word). If anyone's had it done in Seoul at a place other than VIP, how much did they charge you? Obviously I'm not going to let them pluck a rib just for paranasals so it'd have to be silicone or something.
What are you not happy about? Maybe you'd put me in the category of someone who really meeded a nj, but I got subtle changes and I'm happy (so far). My nose is hard too.
I'm at dr kims office now (dream la) any simple to answer questions? Maybe I'll work them in.
Yes, profile is directly from the side. 1/2 profile is what I term between profile and straight on, 45 degree, 3/4, we're all talking about the same thing. I'm not asian so I didn't really need an augmentation. I may have had a radix graft. Will find out tomorrow when I see the surgeon in LA. I'm about 5 weeks post op.
I think, and it's just my impression, that doing revisions takes a lot of confidence in being able to handle any situation that presents itself. You really don't know what's under the hood until you open the person up, and I don't hear of too many people getting opened up and then the doc saying "oops, no sorry, can't do it". So, you're going to charge a lot and then if you screw up the revision, now it's your problem.
I'm reading this book called revision rhinoplasty, it's very interesting with over 700 pictures. Some people's noses look ok with only slight issue visible on the surface but the intra op photo is messed up (at least according to the caption). Some people's pre-ops are just really really messed up. Silicone extrusion, infection, bridge collapse, crazy stuff.
In the case you described I bet you could find SOMEONE who would work on you since going back to the original doc is not an option. A lot of docs don't like to work on other docs work. Heck, even when I had braces I tried to switch othodontitsts and the guy was very hesitant.
Bad reviews because the surgeon didn't give the result a patient was looking for would not discourage me from going to a clinic. One bad review, translated, from someone who had a bad experience would not discourage me from going to a clinic. One bad review from someone I knew, or a forum member that posted over several months and didn't sound crazy that the clinic/surgeon ignored serious problems and refuses to help after getting a bad result especially when other surgeons refuse to touch my nose - I would think twice about going to that surgeon. This doesn't sound like VIP though, aren't there several forum members that have gone back to get issues with their rhinoplasty taken care of and Dr. Lee has done that?
$550 for your own rib? Are you sure it's not donor rib? I agree with the long surgeries and I think that girl's review was probably right, that he does multiple at the same time. It doesn't make sense to me that other docs can do 3-4 noses a day, albeit cheaper in total cost they end up making more than VIP. So why would VIP just do one surgery that is more involved and to get less money on top of it?
My impression was that she was a bit unhappy with the asthetics, pissed off about the functionality(hardness and cold weather effects, and living in Korea that would really suck) but absolutely terrified and distraught that no one else wants to touch her nose because of the procedures she had done at VIP. Ouch, a bad result I could live with, I even 1/2 expected it for my primary, but to not have another chance to correct it... wow, so sad.
pics pics pics! God, my 1/2 profile was horrible before my surgery. Better now but probably still my least favorite view. I don't think 1/2 profile is a common view unless you have a job where you are presenting something in front of a crowd. Maybe it's also a nice view for photos if you're female.
I talked to the guy that works for my company in Korea. He said:
Dr. Park is very famous astethic clinic in Gangnam area. Especially, many actor and actress like 소녀시대, bigbang etc. they had a surgery from him.Nose and eye is his strong field. I did’nt know that he is such famous in idol groups.
He's a ~50 year old Korean guy who knows nothing about plastic surgery so I have to assume he DID find it on those Korean websites.
However, I would only say he would be able to find a rumor, or a fake forum poster, etc...
When I was in Korea, someone at one of the clinics told me in person the same thing without me having brought it up. Probably doesn't meet your high standards of credibility DJJ, but unless the celebrity or management told you personally I don't know any higher confidence you're going to get.
