For friends I know well and co-workers, they already knew before I left to Korea. I'm wondering how I'm going to approach the people that are aquantainces but I don't know well. For example, people who work at restaurants near my job that have seen me thousands of times, so they know me, but not really.
I kinda got a taste of this in Korea when I went to a restaurant that I've gone to over the past couple of times I've been to Korea. They instantly recognized me and started giggilng, in a kinda loving way. Still I felt kinda embarrassed as it was the only time someone had actually said something and pointed out what I had done. I tried explaining to them that I had had a bike accident (which is true) but then realized that the last time I was in Korea I already had evidence of my bike accident. Now I'm back in the US and just want to get my cast off.
What's new? If you had your surgery the 24th be glad you were indoors for a couple of days. A flippin typhoon rolled through those days.
I've tried to see what kind of facial expressions I can make and from what I can tell I'm happy that my relaxed face look doesn't make me look like I'm sad which was one of my biggest complaints of my previous nose.
I know dr kim at dream la does rib. Is he too young or expensive for you, or you haven't checked him out? He'll be here next week I was told. I catching him in la on Tuesday befre he leaves.
Are you coming from the us? My last couple of trips to korea I used orbitz to get an idea of the cheapest carriers and then went to their website and got a cheaper price. Unless you get lucky with a consolidator I think the airlines have wised up to improving the flight finding and buying on their websites. The last couple of times I came here from sfo it was arund $950 with a weeks notice. Since now is peak season it might not be possible to get it for lss than 1k
I talked to the saleslady and she said its really expensive to do rib. 6 million krw or thereabouts. That's like $5500 usd. Email dr park to get details about his experience. Don't expect a quick reply although he did get back to me (sometimes a week later)
It seems like anyone who's had tip work done get the joker or ladyboy smile. Im sporting it right now. Im sorry I don't know how long it takes but it looks like it comes back.
I don't know of any material used for the tip. I assume septal if anything because my ears are intact. Thanks for the comments I hope it turns out well when the cast comes off.
Haha that was my first reaction when I saw myself. Omg! Too pretty, I look like a girl! My tip is waaaaaay high right now. I wanted it raised way high and I think it's being compressed with tape to get the skin to adhere to the smaller cartilage. I'm pretty surprised he got it as high as it looks without making me look like a pig.
No. From dream clinic. Full name is park yang soo. Dr park speaks great english but the other doctors and staff not so much but pretty ok for the doctors. Sometimes it was REALLYhard to communicate with the nurses. Those that saw me earlier this week know that I'm not totally helpless in korean.
I copied the below from a post jas3n made 4 years ago. Its exactly my consult experience. Dr park is either extremely pensive or very confident he does exude competency. I didn't pay a consult fee and my surgery was going to be 3.5 mil before I got lipo which doubled it.
Unlike the other clinics id been to the place appeared just average at first. The layout was its worst trait. it seemed like bad feng shui. there was some bad flourescent lighting, the entrance was a narrow passageway blocked on one side by a blank white wall, leading to a feeling that 'space' was lacking. though as the ceilings were probably twice as high as that of dr jungs it looked nowhere near as cluttered as that place. overall, the scheme was a bit spartan though clean and modern.
When i think back on it, the appearance was like that of a GPs medical centre rather than a plastic surgery clinic (GP = general practitioner -the name us aussies call a normal unspecialised doctor).
it was also quite busy like some medical centres can be. about 15 people or more were waiting in the waiting room alone (at around 6pm). the 3 receptionists were all busy too, and i felt they were also rather unwelcoming, as they let us wait at the front desk for a minute or two without any acknowlegement of us at all. they also spoke minimal english (3/10). so far first impressions of the place werent all that great. but the clinic must've been doing something right to have so many patients.
that day i had an initial meeting with an english speaking 'counselor' of the clinic. her name was Sun Kyoung Kim and her role was to basically screen patients first so patients could discuss what they wanted to get done, if it was possible or not and so they could refer me to the right specialist. i presume this meeting was also so i didnt waste the surgeons time later on.
i was referred to Dr Park, who you can see on this page:µå¸²¼ºÇü¿Ü°ú
on wednesday i went in for my consultation. wait time was about 10mins and UNLIKE other clinics, this consultation would cost W5000 (about the price of a pricier coffee...coffee aint cheap here thats for sure)..fair enough
if he did a good job
Dr Park according to the website was extremely well qualified, and as he assured me in perfectly good english (9/10 or better!!!!) he had done lots of noses -its his speciality it seems (he does 4-5 a day, and has done abt 10000 of them)! Now, this guy was probably the best surgeon i'd come across in terms of qualifications:
med degree and board certified from Seoul national university hospital which i belive is the highest ranked uni here
the hospital he is affiliated with -seoul hospital is great
hes done quite a bit of teaching: clinical prof at Seoul National University Hospital among others
he also has certifications from very good cosmetic surgery associations in korea, japan and the US!!
I saw these certificates myself and photos are in my phone. (Does anyone know how i can extract them to my comp???)
the clinic: Dream Medical Group is affiliated with Samsung Medical Center apparently. Given that samsung is one of the biggest conglomerates here, i think the medical facilities/services must be highly rated. Samsung wouldnt lend their sponsorship to a second rate clinic for PR-reasons.
Like all clinics & Doctors, Dr Park and dreamclinic do however have their faults which ill talk about later...on with my consultation first though.
Basically, the consultation started off similar to the others: 'so what would you like done to your nose?'
i said the usual: narrow, heighten adn define alar; straighten septum, reduce dorsum, columella
his solutions if i can remember correclty: 'umbrella' procedure to heighten, narrow alar (its hard to explain), osteotomy, reducing septum cartilage.. reduction of nostril width (alar base resection?) would be via open rhino if i chose to do it (thats currently the most effective method if your nose is wide). altogether ~1.5hrs.
We went through discussion of recovery and options as well with pretty much the same answers as other places -1mth b4 swelling generally subsided etc etc.
basically, the essential thing that set him apart was his eloquence in english, his less selling of his services/results and him taking the time to explain what the techniques would mean -e.g. incisions where, stiches where etc, potential scarring.
thats what i liked. him talking about the negatives where others wouldnt. whereas the other surgeons id seen before had all said the open method would leave a basically unnoticeable scar, but this guy was making no such promises. unfortunately this meant he was a bit deadpan and serious at times, not as much of a smiling character as Dr Jung or the guy i saw at Clinic 9. However, when the consultation ended, i had an excellent overall impression of the doctor that was marred by only one or two things:
-he didnt use before and after photos. during the visit he claimed he didnt have any on his computer and they were on the counselors computer. but when i saw the counselor she claimed she could not show me any. Im not sure why, misunderstanding doesnt come into it as im certain she understood what i was after b/c i repeated myself 3x...maybe she simply just couldnt be bothered :s
-the busyness of the clinic could be a bad thing. halfway through my consultation a receptionist came into the room and gave the doc the next patients file. he also does taxing surgery all the time. if the doctors are overworked, this increases chances of risks/errors for the patient.
BTW surgery here would cost me 4 million won all inclusive. with a 10% discount possible b/c my mum would be doing a skin treatment upstairs. We didnt try to bargain or anything, but it seems 10% off seems a normal discount.
Dreamclinic gets a 8.5/10 from me.
Hopefully i said everything relevant there. if theres any questions, PM me or put it on the forum.
I asked the guy who works for my company in Korea (korean guy who knows nothing about ps) to check out dr park before my surgery. And he said that dr park is famous for doing the noses of snsd. So apparently this has been a rumor. Recently someone verified this to me in person in Korea and they are in the ps industry.
I think this is as close to asian as I'm ever going to look. My radix area is really wide. For the swelling did vip give you guys anything? They aren't giving me ice or anything. I think it might be because of my ostiotomies that they don't want me to put pressure on that area.
I'm in the recovery room right now and I REALLY know what this ceiling looks like. My surgery time was 7.5hrs, I hope that give me an honrable mention on the rib stackers list.
I found from several sources (the most recent very reliable) that dr. Park did the noses of several members of SNSD. I think they look cute but not gorgeous so I had faith that he wouldn't go all wild. With that in mind I told him take care of the tip and hump and I don't care if I look like a totally different person. I can already tell that is what he did. It is not a subtle change. I guess I will se how I like it in a week. I can't belive tha I've ben staring a this miror for this long.
Now for useful information for forum members. Dr park said that he DOES DO autologus and donor rib rhinoplasty. He totally won't talk price so I will ask the sales lady next time I see hber.
I agree with you to a certain extent. However, I think about this issue a lot of people aren't serious about the surgery...yet or if ever. But maybe they don't like their nose and want to pick up some info. It's easy for me to understand that they are not going to read 400 pages. So I would just ignore the people getting under your skin. I too have found it a little frustating that people don't pm or answer me, but lots of people DO answer me as well. Just figure you weren't likely to get useful information from them anyway and you aren't obligated to help.
For me this is all about to be in the past as my surgery is in 4 hrs. I will send before and afters to active users I think are serious even though my situation is a bit different from most of you all.
I don't think you bring photos for lipo. I think they just do the best they can. As for rhino they probably get excited for doing guy's noses because we often don't care for our nose to look a specific way, we just point out he things we don't like and they fix em the way they think looks best, then we get charged te same amount as the girls. I've debated asking to fix some irregulaties in my tip but I think I'm going to leave it as is for a more natural result. It sems like the girls are more picky.
How much are you guys paying for pinneapple? I'll try to keep an eye out.
I just checked again and the place near vip is more accurately romanized teuim. I don't know if its the sae place.
I've decided to get lipo too. I shoed the doc a pictue of intherighthands and he said I will never ever look like that because I have too much loose skin from prior weight loss. Said he will do his best like I was sending him on a suicide mission. On the plus sde now I'm getting general so I hope to never remember or feel anything about the surgery. I also get an overnight stay so someone will be watching me. Total price for nose and lipo of entire torso(abs, flanks, breast) $6500 (deal). I also ran into my counselor on the street tonight and she invited me out to dinner, so pretty good day overall!
Yes, no problem. If I understand what teuimp is in hangul(and I'm pretty sure I do) it is very near to vip and dream. O&young is a little farther but still walkable.
Anyone needing a place to stay cheap I'm in korea now. $30 us per night. 3 minute walk to dream clinic, 4-5 mins to vip. My room has NOTHING and is very small. Only a flat matress right now so we would have to figure out something for that. Bathroom is a little grimey(I bought cleaning supplies to make due) for my taste but its cheap and insanely close to apgujong clinics. Here until the second and as long as you're not moving in/out on the 28th, we're good. Pm me to meet.
